The other side of the YouTube coin that most don’t show you…

It’s ok though. I know what went wrong. 

Packaging. That’s the issue on this one and the A/B testing shows us a clear path out. 

Onwards. Remember fellow YouTube people. No one gets it right all the time.

Pretty solid result working on this YouTube channel since May as their YouTube channel manager and strategist. 

2026 is going to look pretty rad.  

This is a long game. So 2026 is going to be even better.

31K views, 100 leads added. This is trendjacking on YouTube, but the RIGHT way. 

Let me explain and show you how you can use it too. I'm a YouTube channel manager and YouTube strategist with nearly 10 years of experience. Steal this strategy.

Result first: 

This month I helped a client generate 31,000 views, 500 subs from one video and close to 100 leads added (with calls booked) from a single video.

Here's what we did: my client Richard Hammond-Chambers-Borgnis, who is hands-down the best in the world at helping Americans move to France, was ambushed on live French TV. The segment was framed around the claim that Americans are “abusing” the French healthcare system.

Richard parried every argument on the spot. Because he knows his stuff. 

So I called him, asked him to get to Bristol and we all sprang into action like a bunch of hardcore punk kids jumping off a stage.

We got Richard into the studio to film with Rob Latham, Elena Sarasom and the team at LRB, and we shipped a response fast. I designed the winning thumbnail and ran about 50 title variations. The team at LRB made the video on short notice and smashed it. 

Why am I telling you this?

Because this is Trend Jacking at its most useful.

A lot of people hear “trendjacking” and think it means reacting to whatever the internet is yelling about that day. But as Chris Williamson pointed out recently, "If you get known for the controversy and nothing else, you’re less a builder and more a gossip columnist."

That harms your credibility. 

The version of these videos that work is when the trend is genuinely in your niche, genuinely relevant to your audience, and gives you a chance to add clarity, context, and useful information. Liek a contradicting opinion that people need to hear. 

Think of moments like Justin Hawkins’ recent “car crash” interview (which was actually hilarious) — the reason it works is because there’s something to dissect, and there’s real value in the breakdown.

In this case, Richard didn’t just “respond.” He dissected the claims, explained what was being misunderstood, and turned a hostile moment into something genuinely useful for the exact people the channel serves.

That’s the shift: you’re not chasing attention. You’re using attention to deepen authority.

This isn’t a strategy to run constantly. Just when its useful.

If you run a YouTube channel, think about what’s happening in your niche right now that you could contradict, clarify, or correct — and turn into something genuinely helpful?

This right here is why any article I write for the music retail industry will (usually) rank higher than anyone else's. Experience. 

A quick tip for you if you want to build your own brand authority. Start putting "I" in your articles/blogs. For example, "I found that if I did X (weird thing) with this product, I got Y (weird result), so that's how I get it to do this (other thing)."

My own Google Knowledge panel signals to websites that I have actual experience in the thing that I do. Whether it's YouTube strategy, or writing articles for music retail sites/brands, and managing and working on some of the world's biggest YouTube channels. Like Gibson Gear Guide, Top Gear, BBC Earth, Bluey, PMTVUK, French Connections HCB. 

Build yours by gathering testimonials and inputting your own thoughts into articles.
