My journey into startups began in 2013, when I caught the entrepreneurial bug while working as a Private Wealth Manager at Wells Fargo Advisors, serving tech entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley. Since then, I’ve been living the founder life…building, scaling, raising capital, and mentoring others along the way.

Before my career in finance and tech, I played wide receiver in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, and Chicago Bears. That experience taught me resilience, teamwork, and how to perform under pressure, lessons I carry into every startup I build.

In it, Marc Andreessen explains that top VCs won’t take you seriously unless you come in through a warm introduction...calling it the “first test” for founders.

Nepotism and elitism cloaked under the guise of “networking.”
This shouldn’t be a founder’s first test.

The first test should be:
→ Can you build something people want?
→ Can you convince a few people to join you?

If you can do that, you’re already in great shape. 
Networking your way into a Tier 1 VC shouldn’t be on the to-do list.

When I first moved to San Francisco, I spent hours in cafés around SoMa and South Park trying to eavesdrop on VC conversations...just to catch an email address, just to make my first connections. It was painfully slow.

Eight years later, I’ve been fortunate to build a strong investor network. But not everyone is this fortunate.

I see so many incredible founders who just need a chance to get in front of the right people and they can’t, simply because their network isn’t strong enough.

That’s one of the reasons we built Hubble to connect people with someone who can help them level up, no matter where they are in their journey.

Every week, I introduce founders to investors when I see a fit. Some of those intros lead to investments. But I always think about the ones who never even get that shot.

Don’t ever let your lack of a network be the reason you stop. And don’t listen to “conventional wisdom” like what’s said in this video.

The future should belong to the builders, the ones who dare to leave the safety of the shore…not just the connected.
