I’m going to say the quiet part out loud: there’s a good chance it’s not really the fear of what your clients will say about your video.

Yes… I'm a little late to this trend.

I asked ChatGPT to draw me based on my LinkedIn posts.
It gave me a cape.

And made me a superhero… always holding a microphone in every possible scenario?

The Emmy’s there. The “COACH” hat’s there. The coffee’s there. Even the news van made an appearance.

ChatGPT basically said: “You’re a broadcast person who now teaches people not to hate being on camera and does keynote speaking” and created ALL the versions.

A new client told me she had spent $15K on a video that perfectly captured one thing: how uncomfortable she is on camera.

She’s too embarrassed to use it.

Studio lighting. Makeup artist. Teleprompter. The works.

Meanwhile, her scrappier competitor records a 90-second take from their car after a court win… messy hair, slightly out of breath, phone propped on the dashboard… and it gets shared 47 times.

What fresh hell is this?

Your audience has developed a finely tuned bullshit detector. High polish reads as high sales pitch. Their brains literally shut down the second they sense “corporate video.”

But that raw, slightly imperfect courthouse parking lot video? That fires every trust signal in their nervous system. They’re watching a real human having a real moment. Their mirror neurons light up. Oxytocin gets released. Connection happens.

This is the Paradox of Polish.

Look, I’m not saying you should never create polished video. 

A well-produced piece for your website homepage? Absolutely. Professional video has its place.

But, if you can’t deliver on camera and communicate well, all the spit and polish in the world won’t save you. 

The production quality just amplifies whatever’s already there… and if what’s there is stiff, scripted discomfort, that fifteen grand just bought you an expensive advertisement for your own awkwardness.

The attorneys I coach who finally break through build the foundation first. They learn to show up as the actual expert their clients are desperately trying to find… real emotion, real voice, real presence.

THEN, when they’re ready for that polished website video, they bring that same authentic presence with them into the studio.

That’s what builds trust now.

Not skipping straight to the teleprompter and ring light.
