here's what I'd change in 3 weeks 
(without asking for more feedback)

The scenario: 
Strong performer. Solid reviews. 
Leadership keeps saying "keep doing what you're doing."

Four years later, you're still doing exactly that.

The real problem isn't your performance.
It's your positioning.

More feedback keeps you in execution mode when you need strategic visibility.

Here's what I'd shift immediately:

1. Change how I position myself publicly
→ Leadership needs to see your trajectory before your current reality.

2. Stop solving tasks, start identifying patterns
→ You become the person who sees what leadership needs to see.

3. Document strategic insights, not just deliverables
→ Position yourself as the thinker, not just the doer.

99% of leaders tell you to “inspire” and “motivate” your team.
That’s not leadership. That’s cheerleading.

Real leadership is making people better 
at their jobs than they thought possible.

If you only notice mistakes, people play safe.
If you notice growth, people take risks.

This is what changes how teams actually operate:

When you only notice mistakes, fear takes over.
→ Name the exact behavior that worked
→ Reinforce it publicly so others learn

2️⃣ Know what they’re working toward
People show up for personal goals too.
→ Ask about their goals beyond this role
→ Support progress, even outside work

3️⃣ Give feedback they can absorb
Most feedback fails because delivery fails.
→ Ask how they prefer feedback
→ Adjust tone, not the truth

4️⃣ Own their growth as a leader
Team stagnation is a leadership signal.
→ Give work slightly beyond current skill
→ Review what changed, not just delivered

5️⃣ Tell them what they’re part of
Tasks matter more with context.

1️⃣ Create your reality anchor
↳ Record a 2-minute voice memo after key meetings.
↳ State what happened, what was said, how you felt.
↳ When they deny it later, play it back privately.

📌 You're not crazy. You have proof for yourself.

2️⃣ Use the "curious clarification" technique
↳ When they say "that never happened," respond:
↳ "Interesting. Walk me through your version."
↳ Then watch them struggle to construct a coherent story.

📌 Gaslighters hate being asked for details.

3️⃣ Build a parallel timeline
↳ Keep a separate calendar with actual events.
↳ Not for HR, for you.

📌 When they claim "you only mentioned this once"
You'll know you raised it five times.

4️⃣Practice the 24-hour rule
↳ Don't respond to gaslighting in real-time.
↳ Say: "Let me think about that and get back to you."
↳ Gaslighters need immediate reaction to work their magic.

📌 Delayed response breaks their pattern.

5️⃣ Name it without naming it
↳ In meetings, say: "I want to make sure we're aligned."
↳ Then restate the facts neutrally.
↳ You're not accusing, you're "clarifying."

📌 This protects you while exposing inconsistencies.

6️⃣ Find your pattern witness
↳ Not just documentation, find someone who sees the pattern.
↳ A peer who's noticed the same behavior toward others.
↳ Gaslighting feels personal.

📌 But it's almost never just you.

7️⃣ Use the "broken record" method
↳ When they twist your words, repeat your original statement.
↳ Word for word. Same tone.
↳ Don't defend. Don't explain. Just repeat.

📌 "As I said, the deadline was discussed on Tuesday."
It drives gaslighters insane.

You can't win an argument with someone who rewrites history.
But you can stop playing their game.

Every workplace has a Louis Litt.
Where you accidentally fall prey to getting "Litt up"

They're:
🌟 Brilliant.
🌟 Hard-working.

(yes, these are said at least 2 times a week)

It's a myth to think these compliments motivate top performers. 
But they are secretly driving them away:

→ Translation: You're going to get all the extra work while others coast by.

2️⃣ "You make it look so easy!"

→ Translation: Your reward for excellence is burnout.

8️⃣ "You're too valuable in your current role to promote right now."
→ Translation: Your success has become your ceiling.

High performers don't want surface-level praise. They want:
→ Specific recognition of their impact
→ Growth opportunities, not just more work
→ Compensation that matches their contribution
→ A path forward, not a gilded cage

The best employees aren't leaving bad managers. 
They're leaving "good" managers who accidentally take them for granted.
