I founded and managed a UK Immigration practice registered with and regulated by the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC) at Level 3. 

Together with a team of 3 immigration lawyers, we advised and represented private clients in all aspects of UK immigration law, with particular interest in assisting non-EU nationals applying for Entrepreneur visas. 

We also advised businesses in obtaining Home Office licenses to hire non-EU nationals, secured visas for professional recruits and their families. 

All in we achieved an impeccable track record with the OISC and have many loyal clients who've consistently instructed us time and again, or referred someone to us for advice. 

Since March 2016, we've merged with an OISC Level 3 immigration firm. I made a decision not to manage immigration cases or advise clients on immigration law. I now act as a business development manager for this firm, and refer most of my previous immigration clients to the firm.

In my conversations with businesses, I've been advocating LinkedIn articles because they are one of the few places on LinkedIn that can be searchable on Google

That is, if you pay attention to the SEO settings on these articles. 

Now that LinkedIn is really boosting this feature, this is a great time for business leaders to inject their thought leadership and showcase their company expertise there 

So there you go, LinkedIn articles don't just give you visibility on LinkedIn, they allow businesses to become more searchable elsewhere too!

Showcasing your Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness is still an important indicator of how well your content is ranked and cited on Google and LLMs

LinkedIn and SEO are intertwined in different ways, and will continue to be so in the foreseable future. If you think SEO is about optimising your website, that may be so in the past, definitely not now.

SEO Results in not 3, not 6 but 1 month??

When a web agency approached us for SEO support with a skeptical client, we had to find a way of convincing the client that SEO will help them

Let's just say this particular client was a little impatient and wanted us to prove we can produce results in 1 month! 

We had a review of their competitors to see what they were up to online, search volumes for key search terms and decided we'd give it a shot

This is something we don't normally do. However in this instance, we'd noticed their competitors weren't actively investing in SEO, they also had very little online presence. The client hadn't carried out any SEO either

So we tool a calculated risk and carried out on page-optimisation on a few main pages after having done our research and mapped out an SEO strategy

Less than 30 days later? Their organic traffic jumped, so did the number of visitors to their site. They also went from 0 keywords to 5 ranking on page 1. 

Nice - we accepted the client's challenge and it paid off in the midst of a core algorithm update from Google!

Please don't think we can do this for every client, or that this is all the work that needs doing to produce results - there's a lot more work to be done to achieve consistent, useful and ROI driven results in the long term

WHAT'S YOUR IDEAL BUSINESS COACH?

I've worked with at least 6 coaches since I got into the agency business in 2016. Sales coaches, business coaches, 90 day coach, even a course-building coach. 

It's been a real minefield and not all have been good investments of time and money

I'd learnt something from each of these coaches. However, in-hindsight, I should have approached my choice of coach in a different light. 

What do I mean by that? A certain level of awareness and honesty with oneself and the business is key, and will steer us in the right direction towards the kind of coach we need (not want).

Not doing this at the beginning meant I was more easily swayed by the sales and marketing spiel, and by how I felt at the time. 

Don't get me wrong, there's a great coach in store for each business, we just need to identify the right one for us. 

Each coach has their own unique skillsets, personal and business experience, sector specific knowledge so it pays to do a little homework and "soul searching" before deciding. Here's my list, for starters: 

🤝Be self aware and be honest with myself - what are my strengths, weaknesses, most pressing problems now?

🤝Understanding the stages a business goes through and identifying the stage I'm in helps

🤝Find out if a coach has experience with the stage of business I'm in i.e. are we a good fit? Some coaches are great for startups/solo founders, or are sector specific, others focus on businesses with large teams. 

🤝Check out the coach's reviews; better still ask for references from that coach. What works for one business may not work for yours

🤝Is it important for a coach to have sector specific experience? I'd argue if I needed help setting up systems and procedures for the first time, it won't matter. In fact, fresh perspectives from a coach outside your sector can help

🤝Accountability - does the coach really hold you accountable to ensure progress? Or does the coach adopt a hands off approach in practice? I'd go for the former, everytime 

🤝Do you find a coach who share the same values, someone you can be friends with? Tempting if you find someone who ticks all the boxes not just this one, but I don't think this is priority if you're growing a business  

I feel there's a new business idea brewing. Do you?
