“Those who do not want to imitate anything, Produce nothing…”

In 2020 while preparing my final project, I was blank. I honestly didn’t get the point as I knew what I wanted to write but it couldn’t fill 100 pages. I didn’t know how to take information from sources without feeling like I plagiarized as I was obsessed with creating something out of this world all from my head.

So I did what I could and surprisingly, did well. But it was after I got into writing and observing, that I understood a bit of what I was expected to do. No one was expecting me to write a project with thoughts or ideas all from my head, I just needed to know how to prove a point with my findings from other creators and add my own thoughts to it.

Reading “steal like an artist” by Austin Kleon, reminds me once again that there are no new ideas, just better ways of approaching them and those who get to be called “Top Creators” or “Great Minds” are those who do the hard work of studying creators of old that they genuinely admire and combine all the insights they get from them to create theirs.

Yesterday, I spoke with a journalist/media expert who has been in the industry for 25 years (my age) and he said “you know there’s a stereotype about the GenZs—the GenX see you guys as, foolish, impatient,and lazy.”

In the sense that we love to find shortcuts to get things done, which isn’t totally bad but when it’s harmful is when we try to despise or speak ill of the creators of old because their style has probably gone extinct.
We lose the opportunity to learn key strategies from them that can help us stand the test of time.

“The young shouldn’t despise the old, and the old shouldn’t ridicule the young” 
There’s always a way to collaborate and keep the knowledge flowing upward instead of us creating a gap between ourselves.

Take sometime out of your busy schedule, create a list of old and new creators that you admire, study their works, jot down what you love (have an idea file) and start creating yours.

We’ve all seen those videos where someone is interviewed on the street, shares their story, and then gets treated to a nice day or given money.

Then you head to the comments and see:

“He needs therapy.”
“She should go back to school.”

So many opinions, and it shows how easily we assume based on what we see or perceive.

But how do we make sure the help we give is sustainable and solid?
By asking the right questions and building structures that reveal what solution they really need.

Now, I relate this to luxury.

Everyone calls something “luxury,” but that doesn’t mean we share the same taste or preference.
For some, luxury is fine dining or designer pieces. For others, it’s peace, simplicity, or time.
Yet, many people only want to identify with luxury, not because they love it, but because it looks good. Then, when they finally get it, they realize it never truly resonated with them in the first place.

The truth? Every individual must be honest about what they want.
As much as you love luxury, define your own version and stick to it. Stop copying others, and you’ll find peace and authenticity.

Now, the same principle applies to impact.
To all impact leaders and NGOs, as much as you’re passionate about charity, be just as intentional about solving the right problem with patience and understanding.

One lasting solution is better than a thousand surface-level social media charity gimmicks.

Ask the right questions. Build a structure. Communicate clearly and consistently across every platform.

𝟓 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐆𝐎

There’s a reason why the clothes we no longer wear are called “preloved clothes” and not “used or old,” and even when they are requested for, you’re told not to add torn clothes….
Why?

No one wants something old or used in a shabby way, and when you say you genuinely want to assist someone, would you give them something you can’t even wear or use in confidence?

Nope!

Same with your words. When lending a hand to others, don’t do it in a condescending manner that makes them feel worse than they already are or makes them push back.

Leadership is service and in serving you need to be committed to connecting with people for a greater purpose, else you’ll always come from a place of “my life is good for me so it’s a privilege that I chose to help you guys.”

Choose the right words, find the emotional connection, use them, and build a solid relationship.

5 Words Not to Use as an Impact Leader and NGO 

𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐛𝐞 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐍𝐆𝐎𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬.

For years, NGOs have relied on the same formula:
write letters, send proposals, wait for funding.

It works….
But communication is evolving, and so should impact.

Recently, I came across Louis Kennedy , and their approach blew my mind.
They don’t guilt people into giving.
They create meaningful partnerships,  licensing everyday products to raise funds and drive real impact.

No coercion, just meaningful marketing.

And it reminded me that creativity isn’t a luxury in the impact space, it’s a strategy.

Because the world doesn’t need more emotional pleas; (partly because some people are using them to get money for their personal needs)
it needs stories that connect, ideas that inspire, and collaborations that create value for everyone involved.

That’s what I help NGOs, impact leaders, and purpose-driven brands do, tell stories that build trust, attract support, and move people to act.
