It's been a tough few weeks for us. 
As much as I love seeing everyone's highlight reel online

It doesn’t share the whole story.  

I've seen a few folks I really respect
Share stories of failure recently
And we need that to be normalized too

Because it's not all sunshine and rainbows
And social media making it seem that way
Is terrible for mental health

For the last ~2 years, we've tried to get pregnant
And it's worked 3 times
But it's also failed...3 times
And the most recent one happened again last week

With some added complications of Sarah potentially
Needing to go in for emergency surgery
Which is still looming over our heads as I write this
If that wasn’t tough enough

At 930PM Sunday night
As we’re still unsure about Sarah’s health
Nube (our dog) starts violently wheezing/coughing/choking
And we had no idea what to do
We literally asked each other...
"Is she going to die right now?!"

I started performing the doggie Heimlich maneuver
We realized she could breathe, which was good
So decided to wait it out through the night
And if it got worse drive her 1.5 hours to Emergency Vet

I stayed up with her until 6AM
With her struggling for 10 min intervals off and on
But was absolutely terrifying on top of everything else going on

So yea, life throws a lot of curveballs.

This post isn't looking for sympathy. 

It's about being human and it's about the tools to be resilient when life doesn’t go as expected. 

I had been running a book club with some clients reading 
The Obstacle Is The Way
We didn't know it at the time
But the timing was perfect

There were a lot of tools in that book
That have helped me navigate the roller coaster of feelings
AND have helped me still show up at my best
For myself and my clients even when things suck.

Because as my dad used to tell me
"Even as it feels like the world is crashing down, 
Earth is still spinning, the sun is moving in the sky 
and cars are still going down the road"

A couple lessons from the book I've used are:

1. The power of perspective
You have the ability and power to reframe every story
That story defines your reality, how you feel and act
A lot of stories keep coming up for us that suck, so finding a way to reframe it into something positive has been helpful. 
"This makes us stronger"

2. Action is the antidote
It's easy to sit and be sad through this all. It's necessary. 
But at some point it stops serving you. 
- Journaling to get the emotions & feelings out of my head
- Gratitude - appreciating that we're here and alive
- Deep breathing
- Calling friends

3. Having a strong WILL can get through anything
"You're not born with a steel backbone, you build it" 
Realizing that these HARD experiences are human. 
They make you more empathetic, and we come out stronger for it

I know a lot of people that have struggled.  
I see you.  
I feel your pain. 
We all grow stronger together.

How much of what you learned in school applies today, to you creating your best life or top performing team?

In most cases none of it is relevant.  School didn't teach me how to deal with the rough stuff like tough breakups, missing quota, how to communicate effectively with a remote team, how to manage the loss of a loved one. 

It also didn't teach me how to be my best.  How to set big goals and achieve them consistently without working myself into the ground and getting burnt out. 

Over the past 15+ years I've been studying human psychology and performance from many different angles.  From my own deep work (always a work in progress) into meditation, mindfulness and personal coaching, becoming a certified yoga instructor and more. To learning from the best and brightest minds in business, mindfulness, neuroscience & psychology on how we can perform at our best as individuals and teams.

I love how 24 year olds with 2.5 years of work under their belt think they have it all figured out. 😂

Wish I would've had the courage to turn it into a business 15 years ago... 🤷‍♂️ 

But there’s a few fascinating forces at play. 

1. Social platforms are so new
• LinkedIn started in 2003
• Facebook 2004
• YouTube 2005
• Twitter 2006
• Instagram 2010
• Twitch 2011

They were built to be social networks. 
LinkedIn WAS a professional networking and mainly digital resume. They’re really just transitioning in the last 5 years to something more. 

2. The concept of being a “creator” didn’t exist didn’t really exist until 2010

For me it wasn’t normal to:
- Record a Day In The Life
- Share my top 10 demo tips
- Document my life for the world

I just shared it within my company. 

3. In 2012 surveys found the “dream job” for teens YouTuber started showing up. 

Before it used to be:

      •.   👩‍⚕️ Doctor / Nurse / Veterinarian
	•	👨‍⚖️ Lawyer
	•	👨‍🏫 Teacher / Professor
	•	👨‍💻 Engineer / Scientist
	•	👮‍♂️ Police Officer / Firefighter
	•	✈️ Pilot / Astronaut
	•	⚽ Professional Athlete
	•	🎤 Musician / Actor

These careers were safe and predictable. 

But didn’t give the freedom, autonomy and massive upside that “influencer” did. 

It makes sense why it’s weird for me. 
Because I just missed the boat. 
I graduated college in 2010. 
So it wasn’t even on my radar as an option. 
Let alone a “dream career” 

But yesterday I had a fascinating conversation with a client. 

He said that you almost feel left behind now, if you’re not a creator. 

“There’s no way you’ll be able to afford the life you want just working for someone else”

The pressure to create is strong today. 

And maybe I’m just old school. 
But I don’t buy it. 

Do you need to create to be successful and make enough money in the future?

I had no problem moving some meetings
And getting outside with my pup
For an AM hike and DEEP convo

The leaves were just hanging on 
For the end of fall and we got to 
Hike for 2 hours and talk about

My favorite part was probably adding a new word into my Vocab
We were talking about coincidences or synchronicity
And Anya dropped the term

Where so many things just align
Perfectly. 

Loved this word and looking forward to more of it in life.

But REALLY hard for most folks to complete

Do you think you could do it?

All you have to do 
Is create a list of 
101 things 🗒️ 

Things you want to:
DO (Live abroad for a year CHECK)
BE (Fluent in another language CHECK)
HAVE (Investment properties)

Part of the challenge is coming up with ideas
And pushing past the times where you get stuck

The other part is getting into a place
Where you're comfortable dreaming again

Most kids can do this without struggle
But adults
Tend to get stuck because, as you get older
You stop dreaming.
You get beaten down by life. 📉 
And start to play small. 

So my work is to keep the list always growing 📈 

And I got to check 1 of mine
Off the list 2 weekends ago

For those that don't know me
I'm a massive golf & sports fan
So when a friend invited me to
The Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in NYC
I knew I had to go

A goal of mine is to see all of the major
Sporting events in my lifetime
I've already got quite a few
Superbowl, Stanley Cup, Masters, MLB All-Star game
(Ideally to watch my team too...)

I wasn't sure how I would make it work
But said yes and knew I would figure it out
Luckily the stars aligned
Unfortunately for the USA
They played like crap

But more importantly

P.S. Am I the only one who did this?! 😅 🔥

Struggling to figure out if you’re on the right path?! So are a lot of us. And this image smacked me upside the head the other day. 

The biggest problem most people have. 
Is they spend all their time looking back. 
Asking “What if?” 

Thinking that everything in the past has 100% certainty and would’ve been right.

But in reality you don’t know
What different branches might’ve come. 
Maybe you would’ve:

- Taken the job
- Gone on the vacation
- Said Yes! to a big risk
- Moved to the new city
- Gone to another school
- Invested in Bitcoin earlier
- Asked the partner of your dreams out

And then got hit by a bus ☠️🚌 

You spend so much time looking back. 

But such little time intentionally 
Creating your future. 🚀 

Every year, quarter, month, week, day
You have a new opportunity
To chart the path forward

The future is full of endless possibilities
But most people miss them
Because they stop dreaming
And get stuck on the hamster wheel 🐹 

You stop living with purpose
You stop living with wonder and awe 
You stop setting higher goals 📈 

Here’s a simple few questions to help chart the best path forward. 

Ask yourself:

1. What would I do if I knew I wouldn’t fail?

2. What gives you the most energy? 

3. Who are you at your best?

99% of the time I LOVE posts from Mike Gallardo
But the other day I totally disagreed with one line
And I want to see if I'm crazy

He wrote a great post about sharing pricing
And not hiding it or dancing around it

But the post ended with 1 line
I totally disagree with

He said:
"And yes. Most/all deals should have a discount."

To me that's the exact opposite of what I teach

But I'm not leading one of the fastest growing
Sales organizations on the planet. 

What do y'all think?!

Something most sellers miss that I realized this weekend
Is that you're not just talking to a prospect
You're reaching out and talking to 

Another human
Who has hopes, dreams, wishes & challenges
Just like you do

Last week I went to see 
The largest Sky Lantern Festival in the world
Not only was it spectacular to watch thousands 
Of lanterns float into the night sky 
In front of the moon
In the desert

But something occurred to me because
Everyone wrote something on their lantern
Some sort of intention, wish, love letter, hope, dream
On mine, I simply wrote
"Miss you dad ❤️"
Then let it go

(It's the kind of event my dad would have loved)

But as I stepped back and watched
Thousands of other people launch theirs
I realized that each person there
Has their own:

Heart Break
Challenges
Struggles
Dreams
Goals
Fears
Loss
Love
Joy

But most of the time we are so wrapped up
In our own world, that we totally forget 
Each human is having their own
Totally unique experience 
Which is massive in their own mind

Which brings me to one of my favorite words:
Sonder
"The realization that every random passerby has a life as vivid and complex as your own, with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries, and triumphs, making them the main character of their own story."

When you are selling, leading, talking to someone at the grocery store, getting cut off in traffic. 

Remember Sonder and it'll help you live a much better life.

That after years of failure

And by getting 1% better daily
Compound growth
Consistency
Resilience
Grit
And a growth mindset

I blew past my previous high score of 60
On Ball Defender and got to
Level 129!!! 🥇 

Maybe this is only for United Airlines folks

Planning to create content

Environmental design is one of the reasons 
You're stressed and not having success
1 tiny change can have massive impact

For me this $19.99 hummingbird feeder
Changed the game for me and the joy I get
Working from my desk at home everyday

This whole solopreneur thing gets lonely
So I find ways to enfuse joy into my environment
Especially since I get jealous watching
The golfers & skiers cruise by everyday 

Most humans struggle with anxiety & depression
Because you're living a life by default
Not by intentional design

Your physical environment
Especially where you work
Is where you spend a majority of your life
So take a few minutes and make it enjoyable

What I've seen be SO helpful for many people

1. Get some plants in your space
They create fresh air for your to breathe
Green is a great color to see to calm yourself
It gives you something to take care

2. Buy a bird feeder
We are lucky to have hummingbirds ~5 months a year
When they fly in and I can just stare in awe for a minute

3. Get a standing desk!
Standing up is SO much better for you
It increases heart rate, gets more oxygen to your lungs
Helps your back feel better opposed to hunching over
It also helps you perform better on calls & meetings

3. Choose the 3 most important tasks for next week.
