Joe Pulizzi (he/him) is founder of multiple startups including Content Marketing Institute (CMI), The Tilt (for content creators), Content Entrepreneur Expo (CEX) and Socialtract. Over that time, Joe published 10 books, most recently Burn the Playbook, as well as Content Inc., Epic Content Marketing, and his mystery, The Will to Die.

Joe is best known for his work in content marketing, first using the term in 2001, then launching Content Marketing Institute and the Content Marketing World event. In 2014, he received the "Lifetime Achievement Award" by the Content Council. 

He has published over 1,000 podcast episodes via Content Inc., the podcast for content entrepreneurs, and This Old Marketing with Robert Rose for marketing professionals.

His foundation, The Orange Effect, delivers speech therapy and technology services to over 450 children in 42 states.

I've been going down the AI rabbit hole for two weeks now. Here's my current obsession/thinking.

In three years discovery will be automated. Creation will be automated. The only scarce thing left is belonging. 

Creators and marketers must build that or be replaced.

We don’t want a subscriber. We want a reader.
We don’t want a listener. We want a fan.
We don’t want a follower. We want a friend.
We don’t want reach. We want resonance. (h/t Jay Acunzo)
We don’t want views. We want voices that talk back.

Because when everything can be made by a machine, the only thing left that matters is who cares that it’s you.

I spent last week at MAICON in Cleveland talking with some of the smartest minds in AI and marketing.

Here’s what I heard again and again:

We have about three years before the way content is created, delivered, and consumed changes forever.

Soon, your phone or glasses or car won’t just find content. They’ll create it. Personalized. Instant. Synthetic. Which means your audience might never “find” you at all… because their AI already knows what they want.

That’s the threat. But it’s also the opportunity.
The next three years will define who wins and who disappears. The creators who build real human connection, through trust, story, and ownership, will be the ones who last.
