When the MAHA movement began under RFK, I was hopeful.

Much of what I heard from RFK and the MAHA movement were things I agreed with–fixing our food system, focusing on prevention, promoting healthy lifestyles that are proven to have an impact.

In short, shifting from Medicine 2.0 — treating disease after it happens — to Medicine 3.0 — preventing it before it starts.

Ten months in, I’m disappointed.

What could have been a sea change toward prevention has turned into a campaign of symbolic wins that, at best, are neutral and, at worst, may be harmful.

We’ve spent months celebrating fast-food chains swapping seed oils for animal fats.
Putting aside the endless debate over which is “better,” both miss the point — fried food is still fried food.

Framing that as a “healthier” option just encourages people to eat more of it.

The same goes for removing synthetic dyes or replacing high-fructose corn syrup with “real sugar.”
Sure, these are nice in theory. But Fruit Loops with natural coloring are still Fruit Loops.
Coke with cane sugar is still soda.

These are not health victories. They’re distractions.

Most of this administration’s MAHA focus so far has been spent on cosmetic changes that do little to address the true causes of declining health — chronic disease, metabolic dysfunction, inactivity, sleep deprivation, and poor nutrition.

If we really want to make America healthy again, it won’t come from swapping ingredients in foods that will be unhealthy regardless.

It will come from tackling the root causes of disease — the everyday choices and environments that shape our long-term health.

It’s not too late to course-correct — but it requires leadership willing to focus on what actually moves the needle.

What Data Taught Me About Overtraining

For years, I believed more training meant better results.

GLP-1s vs. Lifestyle? It’s Not Either/Or — It’s Both.

There’s been so much debate about whether lifestyle change or medications like GLP-1s are the “right” path.

But that question misses the point.

It’s not either/or. It’s yes, and.

The $0 Habit That Finally Fixed My Sleep

I’ve tried just about every hack for better sleep.
→ Cutting water in the evenings
→ Nose strips and mouth tape
→ Supplements that promised the world

Falling asleep wasn’t my issue.
Staying asleep was.

I’d wake up at 3 or 4 a.m., sometimes falling back asleep, sometimes not. And I couldn’t figure out why.

Then it hit me: my brain was trained to expect stimulation the second I woke up, thanks to my phone.

Here’s the shift that worked:
✔️I moved my phone out of the bedroom entirely.
✔️And in the morning, I locked it down for the first 30 minutes.

That tiny change rewired the loop.

The difference?
↳ I sleep more deeply and wake up less often.
↳ My mornings feel calmer and more intentional.
↳ I’m more present with my family instead of diving straight into emails and scrolling.

No fancy gadget. No expensive supplement. Just one habit that changed everything.

Sometimes the simplest fixes are the ones that stick.

Are prescription medications safer than supplements?

When I first got into longevity, I avoided prescription meds at all costs.
They felt like failure, something for sick people, not someone “optimizing health.”
So I did what many do: I built a supplement stack instead.

And that’s when I realized something important.

Most supplements are hope in a bottle — not science.
They sound good. They look good. But they’re rarely tested, tracked, or personalized.

Meanwhile, the drugs I was avoiding had:
 ✅ Double-blind trials
 ✅ Defined doses and side effects
 ✅ Decades of data
 ✅ Managed by a physician
 ✅ Often covered by insurance

The irony? Prescription drugs may actually be safer when used correctly.
They’re tested, measured, and monitored — not left to chance.

Today, I still believe lifestyle beats any pill.
But if I’m going to use a molecule to change my biology, I want one that’s proven to work — not one that just has great marketing.

Longevity isn’t about avoiding modern medicine.
It’s about knowing when to use it.

Andy Galpin recently posed this question: Would you stop working out for a year so that you can be pain free for 50 years? 

I was faced with this very question and I am so glad I chose to take time off.

For years I have had pain in my knee, back and adductors. I tried a dozen different things to improve it but the pain lingered.

Then I went to see a McGill Master Clinician. He had a novel idea he called a virtual surgery. We pretend I had surgery and I stop all exercise for 4-6 weeks. Then we slowly bring things back one at a time giving my injuries time to heal.

I was skeptical but had tried so many things that I figured it was worth a shot.

The first few months were brutal.I felt awful not getting my heart rate up. My body composition was moving in the wrong direction. But my pain was gone.

Little by little, I started to heal.

Now, six months later, I’m finally back to some training. Not 100% yet but moving in the right direction.

The irony is that the moment I stopped obsessing over progress was the moment I actually started making it again.

Longevity isn’t about doing more.
It’s about doing what allows you to keep showing up for decades.

The 5-Minute Reset That Changed My Workday

Back-to-back Zooms were killing my focus.
I was multitasking nonstop—Slack, meetings, emails, all at once.
And it showed. My thinking got scattered. My recovery tanked.

So I made a change.

I stopped scheduling back-to-back calls.
Whenever possible, I take meetings on the phone instead of Zoom, often outside, where I can breathe, move, and reset.

Those small shifts gave me space to think again.

Now, between meetings, I take 5 minutes to reset, sometimes that’s a short walk, sometimes it’s just slowing my breathing.

I reprioritized exercise, blocked time for breaks, and started treating recovery as part of performance, not a reward for it.

It’s simple, but the impact has been huge.
I’m sharper in meetings. My energy lasts longer. And I end the day feeling clear, not drained.
