From Rendering to Reality!

I never imagined this day would come.

After 22 years in my office,
Art + Artisans Consulting is moving.

I am an owner in East Austin's new mass timber project, WORKBENCH.
As soon as I learned about it, I knew I had to be a part of it.

Here's my favorite thing about the project:

Our owner-occupiers are 66% Woman-led! 
The synergy and energy between us is palpable.

Women own less than 3% of commercial real estate. I am thrilled to join these badass female leaders in Austin's largest mass timber project.

Here's why our project is unique:
➡️ Majority owner-occupied.
➡️ All owners fall under the CRE umbrella.
➡️ Design reduces CO2 emissions by 500 metric tons

I'm an optimist. Always have been.

But optimists can have a rough week too.

That's what last week was. Rough.
In my younger days, I could let the hard days beat me up.
Ruminate. Wallow. Blame.

That is not how I handle things anymore.
I work to maintain a positive mindset.

Here's how to move forward when business (or life) knocks you down:
1. Ask yourself, 'Is it really that bad?' 
➡️ Will this even matter in a year? a month? a week?

2. Talk it out with someone who loves you
➡️ Don't bottle it. Telling someone helps you process.

3. Clear your mind
➡️ Exercise, meditate, nature, creativity. Whatever brings you peace.

4. Spend time with your family
➡️ Actual family, chosen family, pet family, or all of the above!

Yesterday we went with our son on his first college campus visit.
Seeing him get excited about the future, so many possibilities, filled my cup.

These are the experiences that are actually important.
The ones you will remember a week, a month, and a year from now.

Don't let those rough weeks drain your energy.
Find your chosen method for staying positive.

My mother always said, 'This too shall pass.'
And she was right!

Every city has its secrets.
The stories that get passed down.
The moments the locals remember.

In Austin, one of those secrets is the number 525.

Locals know, it's the haunted bridal suite at the historic Driskill Hotel.
Ghosts have been seen (and heard) in that 1880s landmark many times!

This is one big benefit of working with local artists. They know the hidden stories: the fabric, the folklore, the energy that make a place what it is.

They dont “decorate” a space.
They embed its vibe.

Austin artist Mike Johnston created this mural for a local tech company  and packed it with Austin lore:
 ➡️ Pink flamingos that once lined the highway
 ➡️ The dinosaur from the old mini golf course
 ➡️  Iconic music venue The Continental Club
 ➡️ The Dazed and Confused Chevelle that made Matthew McConaughey a hometown legend

Look closely, and find a secret nod to Austin’s ghosts. Number 525 is hidden on the car door. It sparked an opening-day employee scavenger hunt.

That’s the magic of storytelling through art:

➡️ Portraits of Jane Sibley, who saved the Austin Symphony, and Jeremiah Hamilton, one of Texas’s first Black legislators.
➡️ Neighborhood legendary clubs like Stubb’s, Emo’s, & Cheer Up Charlies.
➡️ Iconic Austin and Texas symbols
➡️ Real leaves from Waller Creek, pressed into the tiles.

You can find something new every time you see it! The result is a piece that makes visitors feel where they are and who came before them.

That’s what art does best.
