Key Achievements: Took Huawei from being a little-known Chinese brand to No. 1 in Telecoms on LinkedIn, Facebook & Twitter in less than 3 years, with engagement metrics now amongst the global tech elite. Exceeded the targets on every major campaign I was involved in. Built the largest LinkedIn following in Asia.

Internal Legacy: Created and guided new content pipelines in key strategic areas, both technical and non-technical. Co-authored Huawei's first "Social Media Handbook" and other guidance materials. Delivered gains in performance metrics each year that were so impressive, they're now reported at the board-level.

Key Achievements and Legacy: Brought journalistic rigor to a pair of magazines that were more like product catalogs before I arrived. Authored and edited some of Huawei’s earliest thought-leadership pieces, including the first-edition of the Global Connectivity Index (GCI), which is still produced annually.

I edit/adapt their technology-oriented content for the mainstream audience and choose the titles and visuals of their pieces, and digitally promote them. Currently, program has generated 18,000+ views in first three months, averaging 1000+ views per post. 

Huawei Tech Topic Expert Blog Program

Project owner for WinWin Magazine Special Edition on immersive technologies. Created Huawei's position on this topic, key messages, and project plan. Produced 12 expert interviews, 15 feature articles (roughly 30,000 words) and 30 short videos. Carried out social media campaign. Project came in under budget and on schedule, leading to roughly 25,000 organic views in less than three months.

WinWin Magazine - Special Edition #3

Project leader for rebuild of DingLicom's website. Researched and solicited tenders from candidate web design firms. Wrote the slogan and most of the content, created the overall color scheme, researched & selected all images, and kept pressure on the web designers in the face of continual letdowns from their end, leading to website coming in just in time for a crucial trade show in June. Project was on time and on budget.

Moni Oloyede makes an excellent point. Marketing was able to get away with incoherence about NFTs and big data because the general public didn't give a s**t about them—but AI is different.

AI summons feelings of hope and doom whenever mentioned, and in case y'all can't read the room our marketing exists in, doom's been winning lately.

Marketers need to adjust.

And I think we haven't because, deep down, a lot of us have gotten too comfortable with not really believing in what we've been shoveling.

Marketers have been trying to be tech bros for so long, we've forgotten that we're supposed speak for the world outside that bubble.

It would not surprise me if luxury or artisanal brands, or brands that depend heavily on human expertise or insight, do start experimenting with some type of "guaranteed human" marketing label.

I don't see this happening mainstream.

But in premium segments, maybe.

I'm starting 2026 in pretty good LinkedIn position:

Here are some lessons learned:

Performance marketing is performing, but it's not delivering.

This was the big finding from a B2B study released over the holiday.

Marketers say performance marketing data does not reflect B2B buying intent.

But they're not doing anything about it because they trust that their data is accurately measured (despite it being misleading or unrevealing).

Five key findings:

1. 89% of B2B marketers trust the quality of their data and analytics, even though 43% say metrics frequently look good but don't convert.

2. 87% chase phantom intent signals, with only 26% of signals becoming qualified opportunities.

3. 66% use 11 or more marketing tools, while 79% can't prove ROI improvement.

4. 76% create content that isn't data-driven, while 72% say AI-generated content is hurting brand distinction.

5. 85% of marketing teams spend more time fixing problems than creating programs.

This report assigns blame in two areas: 

-- Overcomplicated marketing stacks with too many tools (you'll never guess what the authors sell).

-- Attempted remedies are making the problems worse. More tools, more slop, more ad spend (scaling impressions instead of pipeline). 

I'm sure those issues are contributing, but there's a bigger problem.

If your data is accurate, and performance marketing isn't creating pipeline, it means the ads, content, and offers you're sending out aren't reaching the right people, aren't hooking the right people, or both.

The former is a targeting problem. The latter is either a marketing or content problem.

Performance Marketing Data Mirage

Jacob Sanders has written a fascinating article about thin and thick content.

Most AI-generated content today scales or intensifies thinness. 

AI can be used to fatten, slice, dice, and repackage thick content, but it can't make it.

Not on its own.

Most brands will do best with a mix of thick and thin content.

But thin to the Nth degree does not make you thick.

It just makes you boring.

If you want your content cited by AI, ranking for an exact query in organic search is good, but also ranking for fanout queries is a lot better.

In fact, SEO Surfer finds that ranking for one or more fanout queries to be slightly more important to getting cited than ranking for the main query only.

Fanout queries are used by LLMs to create a composite answer from a broader variety of queries.

For example, if you query "best running shoes," an AI might also query things like:

-- best men's running shoes
-- best women's running shoes
-- running shoe reviews

What does all this mean?

Think of it as an equivalent to domain authority.

It helps if your brand has a broader array of demonstrable street cred.

This is an interesting read. It posits that market conditions have become too unpredictable to view the buyer's journey as a linear, sequential process.

In terms of content strategy, this means focusing more on causes and motivations, not just in terms of what triggers the buyer's journey but also what happens along the way.

I think funnel stages are still useful, but we definitely need more nuance and variety in terms of the content we provide.

More choices based on what happens (or what might happen) along the buyer's journey.

Less "walk this way" and more "choose your own adventure."
