Sunday reflection.
In senior leiderschap gaan mensen er vaak van uit dat groei optioneel wordt, dat ervaring ons "vanzelf" vooruitduwt. Mijn ervaring, mijn "waarheid", is: hoe hoger je klimt, hoe intentioneler jouw persoonlijke groei moet worden. 

Wat ik in mijn eigen traject heb geleerd, is dat ontwikkeling niet in isolatie gebeurt; het gebeurt niet alleen in je hoofd of in het zogenaamd 'selecte gezelschap' van andere senior leiders. Het vraagt om een omgeving die je uitdaagt, ondersteunt en de waarden weerspiegelt die je wil reflecteren en jou versterken. Als leiders "besta" je niet alleen in die omgeving, je bent geen meubelstuk, maar je vormt de omgeving. Je bent een actief deel van wat die omgeving is, wordt en hoe die dan weer door anderen beleefd en mee gevormd wordt, als een levend organisme.

Of het nu binnen mijn huidige team is, of binnen het bredere tech-, software- en SaaS-ecosysteem, of in de communities waarmee we samenwerken: we beïnvloeden het culturele weefsel om ons heen. Onze helderheid, onze nederigheid, onze discipline… zij zetten de toon.

Jouw discipline, balans, "self-mastery", respect dragen bij aan iets dat groter is dan jezelf. Die waarden zijn vandaag nog belangrijker in een landschap van sectorafhankelijke digitale versnelling en organisatorische transformatie, zeker in een breder kader van polariserend denken en een zwart-witwereldbeeld.

Als we anderen willen inspireren om te groeien, nieuwe tools te omarmen (wat die ook zijn en betekenen voor hen), verandering aan te gaan en anderen hun capaciteiten willen helpen versterken… dan moeten wij die noodzaak van groei (ook als senior leiders), die nederigheid van geest eerst, zeker zélf belichamen.

Als senior leiders hebben we een dubbele verantwoordelijkheid:
> onze eigen groei blijven cultiveren
> het ecosysteem voeden waar we deel van uitmaken

Voor mij draait echt leiderschap niet alleen om resultaten te behalen. Het gaat voor mij evenzeer om het creëren van de juiste voedingsbodem zodat iedereen om ons heen kan groeien, evolueren en floreren. Als we dat goed doen, reikt de impact veel verder dan onze rollen, onze projecten of onze kwartaalcijfers.
