Never ask your SMEs to write. 

Ever.

That's not how you create thought leadership.

Your SMEs need to focus on the work, keeping billables high while managing fires. That's their job. Leadership measures its success differently. 

Plus, the outputs tend to be...um...*thinks of a nice way to put this*...thorough?

You ask for 1200 words on [Topic]. 

You get a novel that veers off course 3 pages in and lands on an interesting thought by page 27, completely ignoring the original question.

It's the burden of expertise.

Instead, ask your SMEs to do this:

- 60-Minute Recorded Interview
- 15-Minute Review

First, you need tight guardrails. Use the ideation chat to brainstorm, pressure test, and outline a key idea. 

Second, it's the easiest thing in the world for your SMEs to talk about their projects. Ask them 10 questions mapped to the outline.

Third, give them a draft they can edit to sound more like themselves.

Marketers were never meant to masquerade as experts with 20 years of experience in fields they've never done a day's work.
