A new global study by Ashley Madison in collaboration with YouGov reveals that India sits in second place worldwide when it comes to adults who admit to engaging in romantic relationships with colleagues. 

According to the survey, 40% of Indian respondents said they are currently in, or have previously been in, a workplace romance – just behind Mexico at 43%.

🤔 Based on the survey mentioned above, would it be an oversimplification to conclude that the rise in workplace romance in India reflects not only increasing social liberalization but also a deeper symptom of low-engagement work environments?
Routine, process-heavy roles often create emotional voids that colleagues naturally fill for one another, which can blur professional boundaries.

Could long working hours which is often promoted by industry veterans and widely debated topic on social media on work–life balance/ WLB, also be contributing to this trend ? 

Employee interactions are cultural signal that many Indian workplaces are ignoring. Instead of focusing on relationship, orgs focus on the work environment that enables them. 

Are employees learning?
Are roles designed for mastery?
Are teams motivated by outcomes instead of presence?
Are we giving people meaningful problems to solve?
When success is measured by hours, not outcome!

Couple of things+ happened in the world of #AI 

➡️ The Trump administration is not planning to sell its most advanced AI processor ( Blackwell chip) to China, tightening export controls on cutting-edge semiconductor technology

➡️ Intel now partners with Nvidia instead of competing. Geopolitical situation is driving the change in the US semiconductor market  

➡️ China just told its data centers: If you’re taking state money, you’re only buying local AI chips ( state-funded AI projects ditch foreign chips entirely).  That’s bad news for American tech giants like Nvidia, Intel, and AMD? , and great news for Huawei and the gang !!

In many organizations, sugar-coating becomes the default currency. The bread and butter of corp life. After all, naming the obvious (the real problem) feels risky when entire structures are built on maintaining comfort. 

the paradox: 

Very thing we fear exposing is often the very thing holding us back. Specially when stakeholders invest in growth and transformation projects.

Most companies aren’t built to handle blunt truth but are built to manage perception. And that's why change management so often becomes “managed change” !! 

we are witnessing a few cases with AI projects. AI is the golden word for restructuring ... 
 
Leaders work hard to build a culture of openness, not ambiguity.
Rest just manage teams.

“If you were in the middle of the room the whole time, why can we not find a single witness to corroborate your testimony?”
It’s funny ... until you realize how often this happens in organizations.
The most obvious truths are frequently the ones leaders overlook. 
Not because they lack intelligence, but because:
- People do not feel safe naming the real issue
- Teams normalize dysfunction
- Leaders become accustomed to operating with partial information
- Success masks underlying fractures
- Culture rewards harmony over candor
In my coaching and consulting work across 44 countries, I’ve seen this pattern everywhere, from startups to Fortune 50 boardrooms.
The “elephant in the room” is not a metaphor.
It’s a leadership competency.
And real question becomes:
- How often is something sitting right in the middle of your organizational “room”… and no one is willing to acknowledge it?
Great leaders do not avoid the elephant. They turn toward it, ask better questions, and create conditions where others feel safe enough to do the same.
Because every transformation, be it organizational or personal, starts with the courage to name what has been obvious all along.
