I started writing online over 8 years ago.  

And 100% of the people I knew who also started blogging back then have quit.

I knew the stats were grim — 80-90% of blogs fail or are abandoned, often within the first 18 months.

All the successful blogs I knew were already well over a decade old — as at when I was starting. (There were 0 new blogs which were “successful”.)

So I knew the challenge I was undertaking.  

And I knew that if I was going to last, I needed a bigger purpose — something deeper than just making money.  

For me, it was growth: to grow up, level up, and step up.  

For the first 3 years, I had no idea how to make a dime — I was losing money, figuring out design, and learning how to promote my work.

It wasn’t until around the 4th year that my writing got good enough for me to start making money freelancing — as an SEO content writer.

By the 5th year, I doubled down on my blog — hoping to do for myself what I had been doing for clients who left multiple 5-star reviews.

The 6th year, I was seeing results — posts were ranking, community was growing, traffic was consistent.  

By the 7th year, I started treating my blog as a full-time business — letting go of clients who didn’t pay enough for where I was headed.

On the 8th year, it became clear to me that quick money was a dream — and that this had to be a lifelong endeavor.  

8 years in and the website is still not as profitable as I imagined.  

In fact, I wouldn’t even call it profitable — not by normal standards.

But you don’t quit when you have a purpose — especially when that purpose is being fulfilled daily.

Each piece I publish makes me wiser, sharpens my skills, adds to my body of work, and impacts lives.

Success is never guaranteed. But purpose can be enjoyed daily.

And perhaps that’s the reason the blog is still active — through endless Google updates and the rise of powerful AIs.

Just a reminder: blogging is a long-term game.  

(And probably not one you should get into if your main goal is to make quick money.)

Of course, if you come in with the right skills, a solid offer, and a capable team — you can drastically shorten the timeline.

I started with none.

Need a better job? Then keep this in mind before sending out another job application: 

“Private life” is cool — but not on your CV.

Your CV should spill ALL the beans about you as a professional.

It should clearly and confidently show:
- The places you’ve worked  
- The duties you performed  
- The results you’ve generated  
- The achievements you’ve earned  
- The certificates you’ve received  
- The trainings you’ve attended  
- The skills you have  
- The tools you’ve used  
- The qualities you possess  

It is not the place to be humble, vague, or hope they "see your potential" when you show up.

You need to SHOW UP on that CV.

You need to sound like an ASSET — not someone the company might be risking their resources on.

If CVs were humans going on a date, they should show up naked — no guessing, no mystery.  
Lay it all bare.

Be direct, specific, and results-oriented in your presentation.

That’s the bare minimum. Anything less, and you’re not even trying.

Life is a journey — and seldom a smooth one.  
Even under clear skies, planes still experience turbulence.  

Life will present challenges — health scares, toxic colleagues, impossible deadlines, financial strains, and so on.  

But these are more the norm than the exception.  
To cry about them is of little use — though, sometimes, it’s okay to cry.  

Like the plane, what matters is that you stay on course —  
with your thrusters locked on your dreams.  

And even though the turbulence may feel dreadful,  
don’t forget to peek through the window...  
and soak up the view when the skies are calm.

“Sometimes you have to lose your way to find your path.”

Thoughtless action can be just as unhelpful as idleness. But thinking alone isn’t much better.

Getting what you want out of life often starts with knowing what you want. And sometimes, knowing what you want only comes after realising what you don’t.

It’s inefficient to test out everything — yet secondhand knowledge can only take you so far.

True wisdom lies in consistently testing your assumptions and course-correcting with the feedback reality throws at you.

That’s why the most valuable thing isn’t just speed or direction — it’s keeping a track record.

Because while direction matters more than speed, figuring out the right direction often comes from tracing the seemingly random movements.

If you don’t yet know where you’re going, at least don’t go back to the places where you’ve already searched — and found nothing.

Pay attention to how your email address and the links you add to your CV appear.

SexyFav98@gmail•com doesn't look professional — it looks childish or unserious. 

Ms.favour@gmail•com looks professional 

If your LinkedIn URL looks something like Linkedin•com/ dick-david-228395021, it doesn't look professional 

It should look more like Linkedin•com/ dick-david. Simple.

Little tweaks. Huge difference.

Age, local government area, or marital status are not always necessary informations to include in your CV— unless requested. 

Why? Well, let's just say humans can be biased.

For instance, stating you're “Fulani” in Nigeria today may actually raise eyebrows, even if you're clearly not a “bandit”. Personal information can influence recruiters' judgment. 

I remember an assessment I attended at an oil multinational, where we were not even addressed by our names — we were rather given tags (I think I was “A5” or so). That way, the people assessing you don't unconsciously associate you with their cheating partner or favourite cousins who happen to have thesame name. 

You get the gist.

The question of purpose — perhaps the most important question there is — is not about what has been objectively stated to be the best use of a life, but rather, what is deeply subjective to the one living it.

Not only are we born with different strengths and inclinations, but our environments and resources differ drastically.

What is meaningful and possible —  
which is, in fact, what purpose is about — will always be personal.

Consider this:

The Mayfly spends nearly a year as a nymph — immature, drifting in water, and wingless. Then, within 1 to 4 days, it emerges as an adult, flies to warmth, mates, lays thousands of eggs in the water, and dies. Its adult life is so brief, it doesn’t even grow a mouth — no time to eat.

Meanwhile, the Greenland sharks take up to 150 years just to reach sexual maturity. Once mature, they give birth to just a few offspring — and then continue to live for 500+ years.

Though both live in water, they are nothing alike. In fact, they are opposites in almost every way.

Think about that whenever you feel the urge to compare your life with another’s — no matter how close, familiar, or common it may seem.

I was in full-blown panic mode earlier this year about AI, but then that panic helped me see my work in a new light.


You know, there was a lot of changes this year in the world of writing, thanks to AI. Search Engines introduced AI overviews, AI mode, and so on. Ranking for keywords became an issue, and we all feared we were going to be obsolete in no time.


Having been developing my writing skills, and learning more about this field, for almost a decade now, it felt like I had wasted a huge chunk of my life.


But then, you know, in course of thinking, listening to what others were saying, even the feedback from those who consumed the AI responses, and generally the contents I engaged with and which impacted my life, I found that what was really valuable was not mere words, but the stories, ideas, relatability, and how they actually impact and move people.


For instance, despite being in the self-help space for years, I didn't start working out until after reading this story of a lady who didn't know she needed to visit the gym because she was not fat. Being someone who wasn't fat as well, and seeing the several benefits she enjoyed, coupled with my experience with fatigue and all which she also shared, I started working out, and it's been over three months now. It was not some clever research, polished content, or long piece that got me to make the shift, but the honest relatable story.


And so, I switched. I switched to sharing stories and making my content as soulful as possible.
No more trying to be a genius, answer questions, or give ultimate explanations.


As a consequence, I started focusing on the value my work brings to people, like that CV that gets the interview, the copy that gets the sales, or the personal living eulogy that inspires others to live more fully.
I am now working on and working with people who value that—just the real stories, experiences, and all.


In fact, I now want more of AI. But for something else.

Just so I can share deep ideas with her as she helps me reflect, capture my voice tone style and energy, and help me write even more honest, vulnerable, and real stories and ideas that resonate with more people on a deeper level.

Purpose is something most people don’t think much about.
For many, it’s seen as something to figure out later —  
after food, rent, safety, and status have been sorted.  

Something to be considered only after reaching the tip of Maslow’s pyramid of needs:  
- Physiological needs  
- Safety  
- Love and belonging  
- Esteem  
- Self-actualization  

But what many don’t know is that Maslow later added a level above all these:  
Self-transcendence — the need to connect with something beyond yourself,  
to serve a cause greater than your own interests.  
In other words, purpose.

Yet purpose isn’t just the cherry on top.  
It’s what gives everything else meaning.  

People don’t wait to find purpose after their needs are met —  
they often forsake those needs because of it.  
The mother starves for her child.  
The missionary risks safety for the poor.  
The soldier gives his life for others.  

Purpose doesn’t belong at the top of a pyramid.  
And maybe the pyramid was never meant to be rigid — or real.  

Purpose should shape your priorities — not wait for them.

It decides what matters first, depending on your struggle or your circumstances, as your story unfolds.  

To live without purpose, is to lose sight of the story — because what story exists without purpose?

The bright sides of us are often indistinguishable from the darker sides.

Telling the truth is desirable — but the most cruel insults are often true.  
Gifting is admirable — but bribes often come wrapped as gifts.  
Caring is beautiful — but the crime of passion comes from caring.

It takes wisdom to walk the tightrope of who we are — to stop ourselves from tilting into shadow.

If you would tell the truth, tell it to heal — not to harm.  
If you would gift, give from wholeness — not from want.  
If you would care, care to nourish — not to possess.

Don’t deceive yourself that a trait is purely good:  
– Not your calmness (it may just be avoidance).  
– Not your logic (it may be a need to control).  
– Not your empathy (it may become a tool for manipulation).

To walk the tightrope doesn’t only require caution —  it requires a devotion to self-honesty.

Do not relent.

80% of the people who know you want you to win — even if it’s just so they can benefit from it.

The other 20% who may antagonize you are often wrestling with their own pain, envy, or insecurity — it’s not really about you.

The rest of the world simply doesn’t care.

– The crowd wants you to say what you came to say or entertain without failing.  
– The people following you online are mostly hoping for good content.  
– The friends or family checking in just want you to succeed.

This means you can proceed — fully express your gifts, share your ideas, and show up boldly — to the glee and benefit of most people.

Or you can shrink, to soothe or avoid irritating the few who are hurting — and trying to make you hurt too.

And for the rest of the world that doesn’t care, why waste your time obsessing about people who don't even know you?

The truth is: the best gift you can give yourself — and the world — is to become your best self. And most of the universe is solidly behind you.

Don’t buckle. Don’t cower. Proceed.

The common advice is that you should do it even when you don't feel like it — because “discipline.”

No wonder many people don't — because many people don't think of themselves as “disciplined.” Not even me.

But here’s something that keeps me consistent — I know my mind and body can, even when I don’t feel like it.

So I just put myself in situations where my mind and body have to do what they were built for.

I just open the book app — and 1 hour disappears.  
I carry the weight — and 1 workout session is complete.  
I text them first — and a lovely conversation unfolds.

The trick is to trust that you are capable — and you are way more capable than you think.

Errors should be avoided in your CV — not just spelling or punctuation, but tenses, verb agreement, voice consistency, and person consistency.

I know you're not applying for a writing role, but certain blunders can make them question not just your education, but also your claim of having “excellent written and verbal communication skills.”

Every morning you wake up healthy, you've been handed a treasure — mental and physical energy — the most precious currency there is.

And you're free to spend it however you please.

Yet many people let it go to waste:  
- They don’t use it to think anything new or helpful.  
- They don’t use it to build or do anything worthwhile.

But you should aim to spend both wisely.  
- If your work drains your body, make time to think.  
- If your work drains your mind, make time to move.

Investing your thoughts in good ideas strengthens the mind.  
Expending your strength in good effort builds the body.

Both compound over time.  
And since the mind and body are the most valuable things you own, it makes sense that building them costs you something.

Luckily, you're given the currency every single day — in small, steady packets.  

Spend it well — for it expires daily.

The mind and the body are inextricably linked. A sick mind is a sick body, and a sick body is a sick mind.

Exercise isn’t just about aesthetics. Research shows clear, consistent links between physical activity and improved mood — with regular movement recommended as an effective intervention for depression, anxiety, and stress.

- Running — or even a simple walk — can clear the head.  
- A warm bath dissolves irritability.  
- And a hot shower calms the nervous system.

The ability to command your body to do hard, uncomfortable things builds self-efficacy — a powerful foundation for emotional and spiritual resilience.

Beyond that, the body teaches a kind of wisdom thinking can’t. While the mind may spin and spiral, the body responds with truth — through pain, fatigue, hunger, tension, trembling.

This isn’t just philosophy. It’s backed by decades of research in neuroscience, psychology, and medicine.

So take a moment to move.

It’s not just good for your body — it’s medicine for your mind.
