After two amazing years in China, I felt it was time for a change. On one hand, I wanted to do something very different, while on the other I still wanted to leverage my skills and expertise. 

Having been involved in the crypto space for several years and with my experience in finance and analytics, switching to crypto and blockchain full time was a natural transition for me. Somehow seamlessly I got involved with doing Tokenomics for a couple of projects (to be honest I did not know it was called that at the time). It was a perfect fit.

Now, over a year and a half later, having read tens of thousands of pages literature on the topic and having done the Tokenomics setup for over 220+ projects, raising an excess of 1 BN USD, I feel more confident than ever that crypto-economics is at the core of every blockchain project.

In the meantime, I also got to be involved in several other blockchain projects, from calculating RoI and optimal setup for mining farms to defining risk and lending rules for crypto loans, to trying to predict price movements using advanced Machine Learning techniques such as MLPs and LSTMs. It is astonishing how much the blockchain and cryptocurrency space can leverage from good analytics.

While most of my work is about helping projects structure their offering and financials pre-launch, there are cases in which I like to get involved with projects long-term. Bridge Mutual is one such project. 

Bridge Mutual aims to revolutionize the field of fully permissionless, decentralised insurance... and the market seems to recognize the potential of the project. We raised 23+ million USD in TVL and sold in excess of 5+ million USD in policies, in just the first two weeks after go-live.... in a bear market! 

On top of this we were also recognised by some of the most prominent players in the field, as Tether and Bitfinex partnered with us and invested 1 million USD in the project!

While blockchain projects and analytics within this area remain my passion, it turns out I miss doing Data Science. I also missed being part of large projects which can already leverage Big Data and proper Machine Learning models. Eventually, I figured out nothing is stopping me from doing both.

While my previous Data Science experience was a bit skewed towards the business understanding and processes, my position in MWS gave me the opportunity to dive deeper into the engineering, technical and deployment side of the profession.

Most crypto tokens tokens fail. 

Working on tokenomics since 2017 and with 250+ projects to date, I have identified two core reasons behind this:

1. Misalignment of incentives - Working with a Venture Studio or an Accelerator (or any full service Web3 company) can add a lot of value to your project. However, a problem occurs when those companies also design your tokenomics. A Venture Studio is likely to design tokenomics that benefits VCs and early investors - with a lot of early token unlocks -> early sell pressure. A smart contract development company is likely to design tokenomics that are easy for them to implement, regardless if it is optimal for you. Additionally, neither of those companies have an incentive to tell you early on if your business model or tokenomics is not financially sustainable. 

2. One-size-fits-all Tokenomics - Web3 is driven by trends. Around 2017 it was common that the project would give away 70%+ of the tokens, currently the most common approach is different. A core mistake a lot of projects make is just to copy the tokenomics of another project 1:1, without accounting for differences in business models, demand drivers, and applications of the token utility. At FinDaS we are pioneers of the data-driven approach to tokenomics. This means that while we account for current market trends and conditions, ultimately we design your tokenomics around your business model, and optimize it numerically.

Everyone wants the upside story few want the math behind it. But there’s no token dream without the blood, sweat, and tears part.

“Don’t mind the guys in suits. They work for the guys in t-shirts.”

That line bounced around my last corporate job more times than I can count.
Every few months, there’d be a global leadership summit - hundreds of managers, directors, and VPs flown in from every region. It looked like a GQ convention: navy suits, polished shoes, identical smiles. But when the owners walked in (two of them, both billionaires) they showed up in jeans and t-shirts. No watches. No performance energy. Just calm.

That contrast hit me hard.
Because in theory, those suits were “the leaders.”
In practice, they were employees executing someone else’s vision. The owners? They didn’t need permission to exist.

Money doesn’t buy happiness. That cliché is technically true.
But it does buy something dangerously close: freedom.

Freedom to say no.
Freedom to build something that makes sense to you.
Freedom to skip the meeting, the tie, the small talk.

And it’s not really about the clothes. The t-shirt is just a symbol. A quiet signal of “I don’t need to prove anything.” The suit is armor - necessary when you’re still fighting for status or validation. Real power doesn’t announce itself. It just moves quietly, comfortably often in a t-shirt.

I see this tension all the time in crypto and startup culture too. Founders in hoodies raising capital from men in blazers. Token communities preaching decentralization while being run like mini corporations. Freedom as a value, control as a habit.

Every cycle has the same story.

New faces. New buzzwords. New consultants “reinventing” #tokenomics.
And every time, I smile.

Because we’ve seen this movie before - several times.

That’s the part people forget: tokenomics isn’t seasonal. It’s structural. You don’t “pivot” out of bad design. You need to rebuild.

And after eight years, I’ve noticed a pattern: the projects that endure are the ones that treat their token as an economy, not a logo.
- They test assumptions.
- They simulate before shipping.
- They revisit incentives like engineers, not marketers.

If you’re designing your token model right now, ask yourself: Will this still make sense in another 8 years?

The S&P 500 is up 300% since 2000... in dollar terms.
But in gold terms, it’s down 70%.

So did you get richer, or did your ruler shrink?

“Sound money” means your measuring stick doesn’t lie. Fiat measures growth in units it keeps devaluing. Gold, BTC, even well-designed tokens expose the illusion: most “returns” are just inflation in disguise.

The question isn’t what’s performing.
 It’s what are you measuring against?
