I’m officially out of office this week 🎄

Not jetting off anywhere glamorous.
Just doing the very sensible thing of getting organised before Christmas hits.

House getting sorted.
Presents getting wrapped.
Life admin I usually ignore until January getting dealt with.
And actually making it to my kids’ Christmas activities without trying to reply to emails from the sidelines.

But credit where it’s due…
my husband has been pulling his weight.

Even if his version of “helping” does occasionally turn heads.

Case in point: the photo he sent me this weekend after deciding the best way to transport two Christmas trees was to wedge them into the MGB and simply… commit.

Is it practical? Questionable.
Is it efficient? Debatable.
Is it technically the job done? Unfortunately, yes.

So while I’m off ticking things off lists and pretending I’m calm, festive and in control
he’s out here spreading Christmas cheer one questionable decision at a time.

I’m back in for two days next week, but for now it’s family, prep, and mild festive chaos.

Five months into being DAC’s Community Manager… 
I am absolutely still muddling my way through BUT I’m also genuinely useful.

The members come for Jeri! The visionary, the powerhouse.
They get Luke! The operations brain, the tech oracle, the “what even is this software” translator.

And then there’s me.

Not an accountant.
Not a spreadsheet girl.
Definitely not someone who can explain a pivot table unless bribed.

But I do get business.
I get strategy.
I get marketing.
And most of all, I get people.

That’s my lane.
That’s where I thrive.

Most new members have no idea who I am when they join… but they quickly learn I’m the one in their corner.
The one in the group chat.
The one hosting the webinars.
The one fixing logins, pointing them to the right resource, finding answers, or just making sure they feel supported when everything feels a bit much.

I’m not here to be the technical expert. we already have those.
I’m here to make the experience excellent.
To make the community feel warm, connected, and human.
To make sure nobody feels like they’re doing business in a vacuum.

And that matters more than people realise.

Because accountants are brilliant at serving their clients… and terrible at asking for support themselves.

So if I can be the person who makes DAC feel like a place where they can breathe, learn, and actually enjoy being part of something?

Then muddling through is worth it.

Today is one of those “this is why I do what I do” days.

I’ve got so many new DAC welcome boxes to put together that I’m genuinely not convinced they’re all going to fit in the MGB.
If you see a tiny classic car driving through town packed like Santa’s sleigh… mind your business. 😂

But this part fills my cup.

Every welcome box is a new accountant choosing to do things differently.
To get clarity.
To grow with intention.
To stop trying to navigate this whole thing alone.

I’ve already had my 1:1s with a few of our newest members. Listening to where they are in their journey, and where they want to go next! 
Reminds me why community matters so much.

Accountants spend their days supporting everyone else.
But who supports them?

That’s the gap DAC fills.
Not more noise.
Not more pressure.
Just a genuinely supportive room of people who get it, share the same challenges, and celebrate the same wins.

So yes… today I’m knee deep in boxes, tissue paper and postage labels BUT  I wouldn’t swap it for anything.

Welcoming people into DAC is the best part of this job.
And if this many accountants are stepping forward right now… 2026 is going to be wild.
