Did you know Blue Monday was literally invented by Sky Travel in 2005 to sell package holidays? There's no scientific basis for it whatsoever. A psychologist put his name to a fake equation and everyone just ran with it. It's a masterclass in manipulation, honestly. Which is why I'm not posting about it. I refuse to participate. This is simply a post explaining why I won't be posting about it. I think as marketers we have a responsibility to be better than this. To add value, not just jump on trends. Agree?

Here’s my morning for you.

Wake up, go for a run, step in dog poo. 

Have a shower. It was cold.

Do a filming session in Clissold Park. 20 takes later...

Run to a Lime Bike as I have a 9:30, a 10am, and a 10:30 at the office.

The signal in Clissold Park doesn’t allow me to hop on a Lime Bike. 

Run a further half a kilometre to get signal.

Finally get signal and scan a Lime Bike. Hop on the Lime Bike. 

Flat tyre.

Run to another Lime Bike. Another flat tyre.

Look at my watch, it’s 9:15.

Check Citymapper, and run to the nearest bus stop. 

That particular bus stop is going through maintenance.

Run to the next bus stop, the bus I’m trying to get goes past me, and takes away just as I’m arriving to the bus stop.

Find another Lime Bike. Flat tyre. 

It’s now 9:30. 

Find a cafe. 

Get on WiFI. 

The individual I’m trying to speak to doesn’t arrive to our meeting. 

I’m currently stuck in a cafe in Newington Green awaiting for my next block of meetings.

And if you thought there was going to be a punchline, then no, there isn't. 

Today i am that punchline.

So here's how I ended up creating a Brooklyn Beckham sketch on a Tuesday morning.

That's not something you expect to write. 

But there you have it. 

Brooklyn Beckham posts a 6-page Instagram statement airing out his parents. 

The News dropped on Monday night. 
By Tuesday afternoon, I had a sketch out.

Operating at the speed of culture is necessary for the algorithms. 

If you can get there first, you can often get a lot of views. 

Some creators go very lo-fi to get there first. I prefer to make something with a bit more craft, something visually a bit more original. 

The Interstellar meme trend had been floating around for weeks and I wanted to do something with it. 

When the Brooklyn news hit, I immediately thought of the dramatic music, the emotional weight, the absurdity of it all. Perfect dots to connect.
And the most shocking moment of the story was always going to be Victoria dancing on Brooklyn at his own wedding.

You read it and your brain just stops. It's so bizarre, so uncomfortable, so perfectly absurd that it writes itself.

So I thought the Interstellar trend with the dramatic Hans Zimmer score and the emotional gut-punch editing was made for exactly this level of family chaos.

But I needed the right team to collaborate with. 

The legends that are @hollyandbrookedarehooked were up for it as Victoria and Nicola.

And after a brief cry on a IG Stories Urban Pubs and Bars came to the rescue (thank you James Metcalfe!). 

The writing took maybe 30 minutes. 

The performing another 30 odd mins. 

We had an absolute hoot putting this together and edited it inside of 20 minutes. 

I’m very happy with how this came out as typically it’s a labour of love with my work. 

Onto the next!

We made an 8 minute video that went viral on Linkedin.

We knew we had to end 2025 in style, and for several months we’d planned to recreate our favourite scenes of Love Actually.

Risky business choosing the most successful Christmas movie of all time (is that a controversial take?) as we weren’t sure if other people would also be thinking of doing the same thing.

Here’s some of the reasons as to why I believe this particular video did well on LinkedIn over the Christmas period.

But the question ‘where does marketing end and product begin?’ got Ian and I in a tailspin.  

We just couldn’t stop corpsing.
