I started my career in PR, also working in social media. I've been fortunate to have worked on both B2B and B2C campaigns. Working in comms means you have to be 'on it'- someone who knows what will trend before it even happens. To help solve this problem I started 'The Content Architects' and launched a platform called 'key dates finder'.

Not all bots are AI. And this week, that distinction really mattered.

I visited DAWN, a robot cafe in Tokyo that proudly operates without AI. At first glance, it looks like a futuristic dining experience, with OriHome D robots gliding between tables and greeting guests. But very quickly, you realise it is not about the hardware. It is about the humans behind it.

DAWN employs people with disabilities, many of whom are paralysed and operate the robots remotely. Through this work they gain independence, confidence and the social connection that all of us rely on.

There were moments I did not expect: audio glitches, the volume a little off, simple English conversations because it is not their first language. At one point the tele barista stopped moving entirely. It made me think about what Western visitors might expect. We are used to polished experiences, but here the imperfections were part of the point. They made the human element more visible.

One operator showed me the movements her robot could make, talked about her studies and told me about her favourite Japanese sweets. A small exchange, but a powerful reminder that human connection matters, how integral it is for mental health, whatever the interface.

In a world fixated on AI-driven automation, DAWN was a rare example of robotics creating employment rather than replacing it. A contrast to other engineered, AI-led concepts in Japan. Impressive, yes. But this felt like the future we actually want.

The founder, Ory, was unable to attend school himself. By seventeen he wanted to help eliminate human loneliness. Today he uses DAWN and its partnerships to explore how OriHome robots can help "bedridden people regain independence".

Wholesome technology at its best. The kind of future that feels truly worth building.
