The January 2026 updates for Power BI are out! 

Christopher Wagner, MBA, MVP and I put together the latest consolidated updates for this month, along with all the other monthly updates going back to September 2021.

Some of this month's highlights: new marker options in the standard Power BI Azure map visual and modern tooltips are now GA. Also, at the end of the year, I'm sad to see that the Q&A feature will be deprecated as I've had a lot of fun over the years with connecting it to its representative button within Power BI reports.

Power BI Updates - January 2026

Part of the challenge with being a developer is communicating to less technical audiences what needs to occur under the surface before anyone can really see any of the results above water.

People know Power BI, like virtually any other technology, from what they see on the surface, like the visuals in the report layer.

What they don't see is all the other work that occurs below the surface. Facets of modeling like building SQL queries to optimize performance, calculating DAX measures for complex modeling logic, or triaging alternative solutions to the dreaded many-to-many table joins. #PowerBI #Iceberg #Developers
