GTM isn’t a straight line.

It’s a messy series of pivots, experiments, and failures.

I know, I know; everyone dreams of the perfect playbook. The one that guarantees success.

But here’s the truth 👇

Your GTM will evolve,  whether you want it to or not. And that’s actually a good thing.

Here’s how I break it down into 3 phases 👇

✅ Phase 1: Stop obsessing over the “perfect” product

No one knows what the market really wants until you ask them.

Dropbox didn’t launch with everything figured out. They used an MVP + a simple demo video to spark demand.

What to do:

Share early versions with 10-20 target customers → ask “Does this solve your problem?”
Build lean → prioritize what customers need, not what you assume.

✅ Phase 2: Every failed outreach = free feedback

A low reply rate isn’t a death sentence. It’s data.

Message off? Reframe to the pain point.
Timing wrong? Adjust cadence.
ICP too broad? Narrow it down.

Every “no” is a lesson. If you’re not failing, you’re not learning.

✅ Phase 3: Iterate faster than your competitors

Speed matters. Not just in shipping, but in learning.

What to do:
Run small tests → multiple campaigns, quick cycles.
Set KPIs for failure → messaging, channels, objections.

Winners don’t avoid failure. They use failure as fuel.

What’s the biggest GTM failure that ended up teaching you the most?

3 avoidable mistakes in cold outreach and how to fix them. 

Cold outreach is hard - but a lot of what makes it hard is actually fixable.

Here are 3 common ones & what to do instead:

1️⃣ Emails landing in spam

It happens more than you think. Just because your email ID is valid doesn’t mean your message will reach the inbox.

✅Fix:

→ Warm up your domain, Set up SPF, DKIM, and DMARC. Stick to clean lists. 

There are two dozen loops to run through to get your emails into inboxes. Make sure you actually run through them.

→ Your message only matters if it actually gets seen.

2️⃣ Using signals without context

“Congrats on your funding! Want to buy my product?”
Or: “Loved your post yesterday! By the way, here’s what I do.”

We’ve all seen these messages. They feel generic, robotic and disconnected from any real value.

✅Fix:

→ Recognize the difference between “a” signal and “your” signal.

→ Don’t stop with referencing a trigger, instead connect it to your offer in a way that flows naturally.

Example: If they raised funding, tie it to a scaling challenge your solution addresses. If they posted about a topic, build on the insight, not the event.

3️⃣ Competitor targeting done wrong

A common trap: “You’re using [X]? We’re better. Switch.”

Here’s the problem:

→ You have no idea if they’re happy with the current solution.
→ It comes across as aggressive and disrespectful.

Finally, you have competitors do, and that’s not what you want them doing with your customers. 😀

✅Fix: 

→ Acknowledge the competitor respectfully. 

→ Then show where your product specifically helps, ideally in areas others have found valuable when switching.

For example:

"We’ve seen customers using [X product] find Y feature of our tool  really helpful in solving [specific challenge]. Does this sound relevant for your team?"

Or

“Saw you're using [Competitor Name] - great product, especially for [strengths like speed, ease of use, etc.].

That said, a few teams who’ve switched to us mentioned they ran into challenges with [1–2 common pain points].

We’ve built [Product] to solve for exactly that. 

Not saying we are better across the board, but for teams where those issues matter, the switch has been worth it.

Would it make sense to explore if this applies to you too?”

This keeps the conversation respectful, avoids drama, and positions your product as a great solution without attacking anyone else. 

Cold outreach works but only when you get the basics right:
✅ Be thoughtful.
✅ Be respectful.
✅ Be relevant. 

That’s how you cut through the noise and start meaningful conversations.

2️⃣ Built profit-first → Never “growth at all costs.”
3️⃣ Patient scale → Took decades, not quarters.
4️⃣ Privacy + trust → Governments care more about security than shiny features.
5️⃣ Relentless R&D → Depth over hype cycles.
6️⃣ Homegrown talent → Built, trained, retained engineers in India.
7️⃣ Tenkasi roots → Betting big on local ecosystems.
8️⃣ Disciplined global expansion → Not “everywhere, all at once.”
9️⃣ Customer closeness → User pain > roadmap vanity.
🔟 Owned their narrative → Quiet credibility, not loud PR.

Zoho didn’t win by playing the Valley game faster. They won by refusing to play it at all.

🚨 My takeaway: The founder’s path is no longer binary - “raise big or die.”
 
There’s a Zoho way. And if you trust your convictions, there’s your way. 🙂

Fact: 70% of new grads feel unprepared for the realities of the workplace.

If you’ve ever felt your manager expects too much or that you made the wrong career choice, read on.

A lot of people especially early on in their careers feel their managers are hard to please.

But here’s the thing most people don’t want to hear:

It’s not always the manager’s fault. Many times, it’s the transition you’re struggling with.

Let me explain 👇

In India especially, college is… chill.

You show up 50% of the time, maybe less. You bunk classes. Hang out and wing it before exams.

Then one Monday morning, you’re in a job.

📍 You have to show up.
📍 Be on time. Every day.
📍 You have deliverables. Deadlines. Performance metrics.

It’s a massive culture shock, like being thrown back into school, but this time, there are real consequences. 

Now here’s where the perception gap begins:

➡️ For the manager, showing up on time and doing the bare minimum is just the starting line.
➡️ For the new hire, it feels like a big effort. Because it is, compared to where they came from.

So for someone coming from a laid-back environment, it feels like you’re constantly under a microscope, when in reality, for your manager it’s baseline. 

This isn’t to say there aren’t difficult managers. There absolutely are.

But if you’re early in your career, and you're feeling this way, here’s what I’d suggest:

📍 Give it 6–8 months.
📍 Get used to the rhythm. Learn the system. 
📍 Show up. Do your work. Then evaluate.

If you still feel the friction after that, have an honest conversation with your manager. Tell your truth, state your facts, and ask for theirs. If you respect them, ask for feedback, and understand their perspective.

If nothing changes, then it might be time to move.

But then again, it might not.

Because by simply doing this - sticking it out 6-8 months, and having a real 1-1 conversation, you are displaying more EQ than the other 30 people who were newly hired into your team. 

And EQ is Gold for most companies and managers. 😀

Remember, staying in a role long enough to learn and create impact is crucial - especially early in your career. 

I say this from experience. I moved around a lot in my early days. A few times, it really was the manager, or the company. But other times, it was me. I just didn’t know it then.

But regardless of the reason, I paid the price, but I hope you don’t have to. 😅

→ So, if you’re early in your career and you’re struggling, ask yourself:

“Is it really them?
Or am I still adjusting to what work actually is?”

As uncomfortable as that question is, asking it early could save you years of making the wrong assumptions and a few wrong job switches too.

Just sharing what I wish someone had told me when I was starting out. 🙂

Nine reminders that the real battles aren’t in myths.

They’re in our minds.

One story stood out to me this Navratri 👇

Madanasura was a demon with a terrifying boon from Shiva:

Whatever he said… came true. No weapons needed. 

His words alone could destroy.

So, Goddess Bagalamukhi appeared.
And how did she defeat him?

She didn’t shout louder. She pulled out his tongue, silencing him forever.

At face value → a story of good conquering evil.

But symbolically → a mirror to us.

⚡ Our careless words can wound deeper than weapons.
 ⚡ Our ego can blind us more than any demon.
 ⚡ Our doubts, fears, and attachments chain us tighter than any battle.

The many asuras (Madhu, Kaitabha, Shumbha, Nishumbha, etc.) are more than characters. They’re symbols of craving, aversion, ignorance and false identity. 

Devi’s victory isn’t just external conquest. It’s the restoration of inner harmony, reclaiming parts of ourselves that have fallen into chaos.

Navratri isn’t just colors, rituals and celebrations.

It’s a reminder that every goddess is an archetype, a force within us that can slay:

👹 Ego
👹 Careless talk
👹 Greed and restlessness
👹 Anger and jealousy
👹 Doubt and fear

✨ This Navratri, may we not just worship the Devi, but embody her.

 Cool for them. Useless for you.
 Your market, timing, and buyers are different.

The smarter move → Deconstruct why it worked (urgency? channel saturation? timing?) and rebuild it for your market.

📍 Trap #3: Selling to “Everyone”
 
The fastest way to die: spray & pray.
 “Tech companies.” “Mid-market SaaS.” Too vague.

 You need a beachhead → one tiny, painful, urgent niche.
 Win them first. Then expand.

💡 Before you add another feature or chase another shiny growth hack, ask yourself:
→ Am I solving a real pain?
→ Am I telling a story my customers instantly recognize?
→ Am I focused on the right people or just chasing numbers?

GTM isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing what’s right.

I’ve lost count of how many times someone has stopped me to ask about a print or a color. 🙂

I used to think that “I HAD anxiety”. But I learned recently that I was the one training my brain to worry!!!
 
Did you know that your brain evolved to identify and survive life-threatening dangers? 

The stress response this triggers is pretty effective- it has kept us alive and on top of the food chain after all. 😅

The problem is, there is no separate mechanism to deal with modern stressors like deadlines, news about the war or your sleep tracker saying you got only 5 hours of sleep. 

These trigger the exact same stress response as identifying a tiger in the bushes. 😀

Now,  once you panic about a situation once, your body builds a memory of that stress response. Survival 101. 

So next time, even if the trigger is smaller, you relive the same hormonal cascade.

📉 It becomes a loop:

Trigger → Overthinking → Stress → Reinforcement → Repeat

According to a study by the American Psychological Association, chronic stress physically rewires the brain, making you more reactive to minor threats over time.

In short:

→ We don’t experience anxiety in a sudden one-off event.
→ We practice it.

This knowledge has been empowering for me. After all, if I’m creating it, I have the capability to break it too. 

✅ What’s helped me break the pattern?

→ Recognizing the difference between “thoughts” and “thinking.”

Thoughts show up. They're usually neutral or even inspired - these are the ideas that hit you while walking, showering, or zoning out. 

And thinking is what we do with those thoughts and that’s where the spiral begins.

So now, when a thought hits (like “I didn’t sleep well”), I try not to chase it.

I notice it, let it pass. Don’t build a story around it.

Honestly though, it doesn’t always work. But the more I practice, the easier it gets to stay present instead of reactive. 🙂

Happy Diwali! ✨️

I get excited about most festivals and Diwali has always felt a little extra special. It’s the biggest festival of the year after all for us! 

As a kid, it meant oil baths, new clothes, crackers, snacks and sweets. Lots of sweets. 😅

Not a lot has changed at our home since then.

The entire family still does oil baths. 

We still burst crackers- flower pots and sangu chakrams, some sky works. Things that aren’t too loud and noisy, but nevertheless scream Diwali. 

We host several parties, play games and cards, and spend a lot of time with friends and family.

Yes, there’s more awareness now about pollution, noise, and animal safety. 

And I think those conversations are important too.

But I also believe you can be thoughtful and celebrate. The two don’t have to cancel each other out.

So, when I celebrate, I celebrate fully. Joyfully. 

Because for me, culture isn’t performative - it’s something that is lived and passed on. 

The way I celebrate might not check every box but it reminds me of where I come from. And it gives my child the roots she will need when she grows up and grows older.

It’s something I hope my daughter will cherish, and one day, make her own. 🙂

So, this Diwali, you do you. Whatever your version of celebration looks like, I hope it brings you peace, warmth and a whole lot of joy. ✨🙂

I closed my first big sale at 23 and made a $4K commission.

Ironically, my success  had nothing to do with being a great sales person.

It wasn’t about clever lines, objection handling, or product knowledge.

In fact, I barely knew anything.

I was a young graduate in the US (a nobody in other words ), trying to sell technology to tenured professors. 

Talk about a sceptical audience. 

But I don’t blame them!

I wasn’t technical. Couldn’t talk shop at their level (I’d just graduated).

I felt out of my depth in every conversation, and boy, did they know it!

One day, I realised something. No matter how hard I tried, I could never talk at their level about their research.  Somehow, this knowledge was liberating.  

Instead of trying to sound smart or prove that I could help, I started asking questions to better understand THEM: 

→ “Saw your latest paper, it’s incredible- what’s one bottleneck that you want to eliminate right away to get to the next stage?
→ “What’s still painful in your current setup that you want to allot a budget for?”
→ “What would make your work easier?”

Finally, one professor opened up about a specific issue in his process.

It happened to be exactly what our tech could solve. I brought in internal proof, research papers, and data.

And he bought - $52K deal!! My first big one and I got myself a $4K commission.

But more importantly, I got a lesson I still carry:

You don’t need to be THE expert to win in sales. 

But you do need to understand one thing better than most reps:

Your job isn’t to have all the answers.
It’s to ask better questions, so people give you the answers you need to sell.

Especially at the top of the funnel, people don’t want a perfect pitch - they want to feel like you actually care, and that they come first for you.

All you need for this is curiosity. And humility.

This is still true, by the way.  A million sales later. 🙂

When I was younger, Gandhiji was my hero. I shared his zodiac sign and I was proud of it. I read his speeches. I saw him as flawless, almost saint-like.

In other words, the government-approved version that we all read in history books. 🙂

But the closer I looked, the more cracks I saw.

Gandhiji wasn’t perfect. In fact, he was far from it. 

He made choices that were complex, sometimes controversial.

He delayed independence when it was offered earlier.

He had relationships that raise difficult questions today.

He carried his share of ego.

And yet, here’s what I have realized: 

All heroes are human.
And all humans are fallible.

So, we don’t need to choose between blind worship and outright rejection.

There’s a third space: respect with awareness.

Today, I no longer hero-worship Gandhiji.

But I do respect him.

Because he stood for something.

Because he lived his beliefs, even when inconvenient.

Because unlike most leaders, he didn’t crave power for himself, making him a political unicorn.

And because, at least at times, he questioned himself.

This Gandhi Jayanti, maybe we don’t need more statues or quotes.

We need reflection.

📍 Which values do we carry forward?
📍 Which parts of his legacy still serve us, and what must we outgrow?
📍And most important of all, can we learn to lead without needing to be worshipped?

Gandhi wasn’t the sole reason we won independence. But he was a big part of the story, with all its contradictions.

And if we’re willing to learn from the whole truth, not just the polished version, maybe we become better thinkers.

Maybe even better leaders.
