ידעתם שהפאד תאי, המנה הכי תאילנדית בעולם, הומצאה בכלל כמהלך שיווקי של דיקטטור? הנה הסיפור האמיתי:


בשנות ה 30, תאילנד (אז עדיין סיאם) הייתה מדינה ענייה, מוצפת שיטפונות, תלויה בסינים ובייצוא אורז. שום דבר לא הריח כמו “לאום עצמאי”. 
המדינה חיפשה דחוף זהות, כסף, וכבוד בינלאומי.


אז פלאק פיבולסונגקראם, הידוע בכינוי Phibun, ראש הממשלה הצבאי, זיהה את הבעיה. הוא הבין שבשביל לבנות מדינה מודרנית הוא חייב לייצר שלושה דברים:


לנתק את התלות מסין, להדליק מחדש את הלאומיות, וליצור מנועי הכנסה חדשים.


אז הוא כינס את מיטב המוחות של הממשלה והיועצים שלו, וכולם פה אחד המליצו לו ללכת על הדבר הכי חזק בתאילנד: אוכל.


החזון שלו היה פשוט וברוטלי:
אנחנו נמציא מנה לאומית חדשה, שתהיה זולה, מבוססת חומרי גלם מקומיים, קלה להכנה, ובעיקר תהיה מותאמת לחיך המערבי. כי תיירות עמדה להפוך לביזנס הגדול של המדינה.


וככה, ב1938, Phibun הכריז על תחרות רשמית:
"מי ימציא את המנה שתייצג את תאילנד החדשה?"


והמנצחת הייתה המצאה מוחלטת: הפאד תאי.
אטריות אורז (זול), טופו/שרימפס מיובשים (ייצוא), תמרהינדי (מתוק־חמוץ), סוכר, בוטנים כתושים ורוטב דגים מעודן.


וזה קטע, כי המתכון לא “עבר מדור לדור בכפר קטן, ואין לו שום סיפור legacy אמיתי. הוא נבנה במשרד ממשלתי, אושר, הונדס לטעם מערבי, והופץ כסמל לאומי רשמי.


ובשביל להטמיע אותו, הממשלה הפעילה קמפיין ענק שהיה יכול להיות בקלות Case Study של סוכנות מיתוג היום:

• הממשלה הציבה עגלות פאד תאי וחילקה אותם בחינם ברחובות בנגקוק כדי להרגיל את הציבור.
 • בבתי ספר הממשלה הכניסה את המנה כחלק ממערכת החינוך האזרחי, וזה הגיע לרמה שילדים הוכרחו להכין אותה כ"סמל הלאומיות".
 • דיפלומטים הונחו להגיש אותה בכל אירוע בינלאומי בשגרירויות.
 • וממשלת תאילנד אפילו השקיעה ומימנה הקמת מסעדות ראשונות בניו יורק ולונדון כדי להחדיר את הטעם לעולם.


בשנות ה־60, עם החיילים האמריקאים במלחמת וייטנאם, פאד תאי הפכה למנה הכי מזוהה עם תאילנד.


ובשנת 2001, הממשלה השיקה את תוכנית Global Thai, תוכנית גאסטרו-דיפלומטיה רשמית: סבסוד של 5,000 מסעדות תאיות חדשות בעולם, יצוא המוני של רוטב דגים ותמרהינדי, וויזות מיוחדות לשפים.


והאימפקט?
מספר המסעדות התאיות בעולם קפץ מ 5,500 ל 15,000.
99% מהתיירים בתאילנד אוכלים היום פאד תאי, מנה שנולדה רק לפני 80 שנה.
ויש לנו מותג של מדינה שליטרלי נבנה דרך הצלחת.


וכאן מגיע עקרון הברזל בפסיכולוגיה של מיתוג.
כי המוח האנושי לא בודק עובדות, הוא מגיב ומתאהב בסיפורים.
וכשהסיפור מספיק מדויק ומבוסס על הבנה של נפש האדם ואינטלגנציה רגשית, המותג הופך לאמת במוח ובלב של הלקוחות. 
אין על מיתוג.
