Three years ago this Thanksgiving, I went through a separation...


Our therapist at the time told us that:

"80% of healing separations end in divorce. 20% are successful"

Maybe she shouldn't have shared that stat.  
Maybe our fate was already sealed. 
Maybe both.

Halfway through the separation — right before the new year — my ex-husband emailed saying he didn't want to finish and instead wanted out. 

I was $%^& livid 😡

I remember sitting at Pick Up Stix with my mom, reading the email then quietly excusing myself to the bathroom and proceeding to punch the tile wall in anger.

After a decade… all I get is an email?
Rich.

Like most things in our marriage, he said he wanted it. But I had to take the action.

I was always the one doing.
Over-functioning.
Performing for love.
Pushing. Proving.
Trying to fix things that were never mine to fix.

I'm not sharing this for sympathy.

I'm sharing this because I know that I'm not the only one

I know someone reading this is navigating that same heart-wrenchingly painful journey right now.

Thanksgiving is still one of my favorite holidays for the food and togetherness.

But it can also be marked by:

😔 Crushing loneliness.
😭  Grief.
😖 Pain.
😥 Uncertainty.

And reminders that things aren't as they should be.

If that's you, babe, know that you're not alone.

Three years ago, I entered the most excruciatingly painful season of my entire life.

And guess what? I'm still standing and so will you. 

Clumsily at times.
Unsure at times.
But standing nonetheless.

During that season, I clung to:

My faith. My family. My community.

I forced myself to the gym. 
Met girlfriends for coffee. 
Journaled.. a ton.
Prayed.
Cried...
Screamed.
Showed up (sometimes) even I wanted to disappear.

Because you don't heal in isolation. You heal in community.

Did I try to numb the pain with new relationships? 💯
Would I recommend it? Hell no.

That's like running a marathon after open-heart surgery.

But I get it. It's human to fill the void — especially when you were starved for connection and affection for so long. 

Three years out, still single, still rebuilding, here's what I'm learning:

When you learn to love yourself, like truly love yourself the way God created you to be — you'll never be alone.

Lonely at times? Sure.
But never alone.

You begin to see yourself the way God sees you.
The way the world sees you.

I haven't "arrived." But there's been progress. Real progress.

So to anyone navigating separation or divorce:

My heart is with you.
There is help — from above and from your community.

Lean in.
Feel the pain.
AND know that even though it might not feel like it...this too shall pass.

Be a little kinder this season. To others. To yourself.
You never know who's carrying invisible wounds while trying to remain grateful.

Between client work, content creation, DMs, emails, writing, design, planning, and trying to stay sane 🤪 — you quickly realize you can't do it without the right support. 

Here are (some) of the tools I use every day to organize my life and business as a faith-driven personal branding strategist, content creator + ghostwriter:

1️⃣  Canva 🎨 

My go-to for everything design-related. LinkedIn banners, quote graphics, carousels, UGC storyboards, testimonials, branding kits, vision boards — if you can imagine it, you can build it in Canva.

User-friendly. Clean. Easy. A must-have.

2️⃣  Notion

I started using Notion this year after being invited as LinkedIn influence of their Notion faces campaign and as someone with an ADHD brain, I actually find it pretty intuitive.

You can create:

• content calendars
• client dashboards
• project trackers
• document hubs
• personal planning systems

I'm still learning it, but it's quickly becoming a home base for my brain.

3️⃣  Stanley by Stan

Okay… this tool surprised me. 🤯

I joined their beta cohort, and Stanley truly elevates my content creation if I'm ever staring at a blank screen. It analyzes my past LinkedIn content and writes in my voice — alarmingly well.

Like any AI, it needs my guidance.

But when I need content ideas, drafts, captions, hooks, or just more consistency, Stanley has been a huge help.

4️⃣  Scrivener 📖 

I wrote my entire first book manuscript in Scrivener. ✍️

If you struggle with organization, get overwhelmed looking at big documents, or need structure for long-form writing, this tool is a lifesaver.
I'm now using it in the editing phase, and I can't recommend it enough.

5️⃣ Stan Store

This is the most straightforward "no-code" website builder I've personally used.

You can set up:
• booking links
• lead magnets
• paid offers
• communities
• newsletters
• discovery calls
• templates
• digital downloads

I run my LinkedIn Influence Accelerator community through Stan, and it keeps things simple and streamlined.

6️⃣  Kondo (LinkedIn Inbox Manager)

Let's be real: LinkedIn's native inbox is… chaotic. 😅

Kondo can organize leads, group conversations, follow-ups, and keep your outreach clean and stress-free. If LinkedIn is where you do business, I've found this tool to be incredibly valuable.

In the art of creating, writing, and contributing, we're breaking down the walls that separate us.

These walls that serve as false independence become mirrors of our interdependence.

Every vulnerable post we share.
Every testimony we release.
Every story we tell.

We're dismantling what divides us.

Because I am you and you are me.

I'm not separate from you. 

You feel, heal, and suffer the way I do.

Maybe in different ways. 
For different reasons. 

But our tears? Still hot and salty as they roll down our cheeks. 
Our blood? Still that same rich, deep red that reminds us...

We're not separate.
We're the same.

We can build walls 20 feet tall.
We can let politics divide us.
We can argue over denominations.
We can judge each other's brokenness.
We can compete for success.
We can weaponize our differences.

But the Word reminds us:

"There is one body and one Spirit…one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all." - Eph. 4:4-6

One body.
One Spirit.
One hope.
One Lord.
One faith.
One Father who is through ALL and in ALL.

This is not why your story matters.
This is why hiding your testimony serves no one.

When you heal out loud, you give others permission to do the same.

I see it every day with mission-driven leaders. They think their mess is too messy. Their pain too personal. Their story too broken.

But then they share it.

And someone comments: "I thought I was the only one."

Someone DMs: "Your story gave me hope."

Someone decides: "If she can heal from that, maybe I can too."

We're all walking each other home. 💜

Your vulnerability isn't weakness — it's your superpower. 

For you are me and I am you.

And in Christ we are one.
