It's the eve of The Year of the Horse today.

And this Chinese New Year got me thinking.

Every January, leaders tell me:
“This is the year we move faster. The year we go bigger. The year we do more. ”

Faster transformation.
Faster growth.
Faster decisions.

But here’s what I’ve observed after years shoulder to shoulder with business leaders and boards:

The strongest aren’t the fastest in the room. They’re the most deliberate.

They don’t chase every initiative.
They don’t attend every meeting.
They don’t say yes just to signal commitment.

They choose where to place their weight.

A horse doesn’t look powerful because it’s rushing.

It looks powerful because it’s grounded — even at full speed.

Last year I saw organizations falter not from lack of ambition…

but from too many parallel priorities and not enough protected focus.

So as we enter a new cycle, I’m less interested in “more.”

I’m interested in better.

Less noise.
Cleaner decisions.
Stronger stance.

Simple question — and no overthinking:

What are YOU bringing more of this year?

Day 1 of a new year is all fireworks and optimism.
Day 2 is where truth rises slowly and steadily.

It’s the moment after the big declarations.
After the “new year, new me” posts.

After the lucky colours and loud celebrations.
Day 2 of Chinese New Year — lanterns still glowing, the tempo calmer — and I’m reminded of something:

Rituals aren’t about spectacle.
They’re about reset and recalibration.

You don’t need to celebrate Lunar New Year to appreciate the value of a deliberate pause.

We move through life so quickly — quarter to quarter, project to project — that we rarely mark transitions properly. We just… roll forward.

Maybe the real luxury is stopping long enough to intentionally mark what you're finally leaving behind.

🧧 So here’s a different kind of question: What’s something you’re officially done tolerating this year? 🧧

Work, habits, dynamics, self-imposed pressure — all fair game.

For me? I'm leaving behind narrow mindedness. Grim views of the world are suffocating as well as depressing - and I'm pulling the escape hatch on these folk.

Let’s make Day 2 count.

The most expensive mistake leaders make? 

Neglecting the "Human Operating System."

In my years leading $300M+ change programs, I’ve seen brilliant strategies fail for one reason: The leadership team was too depleted to execute them.

We talk about "operational excellence" for our companies, but rarely for ourselves.

I used to view high-end tools and bespoke services as indulgences (they're not). 

Now, I view them as Foundational Infrastructure. 

If you want to make $10M decisions, you cannot operate on a $10 energy budget.

My non-negotiables for performance x clarity:
Deep Work: Loop Earplugs creates a sanctuary, not just a desk.
Time Recapture: Hourglass Cosmetics multitaskers. The 13-step Korean beauty regime is for taitais - I ain't one of them. 
Mental Reset: Singapore Airlines PPS is a life-saver; because the "space" between point A and B is where my best ideas are born.

The best upgrades aren't about status. They are about bandwidth, focus, and presence.

When you protect your energy, you protect your judgment. And the higher you go, judgment becomes your MVP.
