Symbolic AI and Expert Systems that follow rigid rules to make decisions. 
It doesn't learn, it just follows the rules.

We stopped writing rules and started using math. 

Algorithms analyse data to find patterns.

Ships are unloaded remotely by human operators using remote connections, with no one physically sitting in the cranes. 

Once containers touch the ground, autonomous vehicles take over, moving them across the terminal to trucks and storage areas without human drivers, essentially like AGVs.

High-bandwidth, low-latency networking enables remote control where full autonomy is still hard, while structured environments allow driverless transport to run reliably at scale. 

Humans stay in control of exceptions, machines handle the repetition.

Fewer people in hazardous zones, and tighter coordination between machines.

You don’t need weeks, a team, or complex tools to build an AI agent.

If you can clearly describe one boring task, you can build one in minutes.

Most people don’t struggle with agents because the technology is hard.
They struggle because they start in the wrong place.

They ask:
“What could AI do?”

Instead of:
“What work do I already do the same way, every single time?”

That difference matters.

Good agents don’t automate thinking.
They automate known work.

If a task can’t be written clearly, it can’t be automated reliably.

Here’s the approach that actually works:

1- Start with one boring, repeatable task
If it doesn’t happen every week, don’t start there.

2- Write the steps the way a new hire would need them
Inputs → actions → decisions → output.
No intuition. No shortcuts.

3- Decide where the agent lives before you build it
Most failures come from reinventing infrastructure, not from model choice.

4- Be explicit about inputs and outputs
Vagueness is the fastest way to break an agent.

5- Give the agent a narrow role
Clear responsibility beats clever behavior every time.

6- Add context only where it improves decisions
More memory isn’t better.
Relevant memory is.

7- Decide where humans must stay involved
Especially when money, data, or customers are involved.

8- Make it easy to run
If it takes effort to use, it won’t last.

9- Test it on real work, not examples
Watch where it fails.
Fix the step, not the output.

The agents that actually get used aren’t impressive.

They’re boring, predictable, and easy to trust.

That’s why they stick.

The Three Layers of a Coherent Life

Most breakdowns in modern life are not caused by a lack of effort or intelligence. They are caused by treating all problems as if they exist at the same scale. When stability, execution, and direction are blurred together, people push harder in the wrong places and wonder why nothing holds. Coherence requires respecting layers.

The first layer is stability. This is the physiological and emotional substrate that determines whether higher-level reasoning is reliable. Sleep, health, nervous system regulation, and basic routines live here. When this layer is unstable, the mind generates urgency, threat narratives, and false priorities. No amount of planning or motivation can compensate for instability at this level. Stability is not optional. It is the noise floor of the system.

The second layer is execution. This is where work becomes visible and progress takes form. Execution operates on the scale of weeks, not hours. It is measured by finished artifacts, resolved conversations, and enforced boundaries. A coherent execution layer produces tangible outputs that reduce ambiguity and create momentum. When execution fails, people often respond by increasing activity instead of finishing work, which only deepens fragmentation.

The third layer is direction. This layer governs meaning, identity, and trajectory over months or quarters. Direction answers what you are building, who it is for, and what proof would show it is working. Direction does not change daily, and it should not be revised in response to short-term stress. When direction is unclear, execution becomes scattered and stability erodes under the weight of competing priorities.

Most burnout occurs when people try to solve direction problems with execution tactics or stability problems with motivation. The Coherence Operating System enforces separation between these layers. When each layer is addressed at the right scale, effort compounds naturally, and life becomes easier to operate rather than harder.

Innovation Meets Community Care
In Shenzhen, addressing food insecurity and reducing waste has taken a high-tech, human-centered approach. Launched in May 2022 by the Futian District Civil Affairs Bureau, the 24/7 food bank (24小时食物银行) combines smart technology, community engagement, and sustainability to provide fresh food to those who need it most.

Twenty-two smart refrigerated cabinets are currently placed across neighborhoods in Futian District, stocked daily with donated food from supermarkets, restaurants, and hotels — often surplus or near-expiry items that are still safe to eat.

Access via the “iShenzhen” app allows users to register, authenticate, and collect food with dignity and privacy. Priority access before 8 PM is given to vulnerable groups, including low-income households, elderly people living alone, individuals with disabilities, and sanitation workers. After 8 PM, any remaining food is available to all registered citizens. Daily distribution ensures minimal waste, while volunteers and community partners manage logistics, food safety, and traceability.

Unlike traditional food banks around the world, Shenzhen’s model is fully automated, operates 24/7, is app-driven, and is designed to protect privacy and dignity. Its combination of municipal coordination, refrigerated smart cabinets, priority rules, and traceability sets it apart from community fridges or food-sharing apps seen elsewhere.

Since its launch, the food bank has served thousands of people, including frontline workers and vulnerable residents, and has distributed around 500,000 portions of food. It has prevented hundreds of tons of food waste and contributed to an estimated reduction of 390 tons of carbon emissions.

Smart urban solutions combining technology, social policy, and volunteering are helping make communities more inclusive, sustainable, humane, and resilient.
