In 1997, my college tutor told me, I should pack in sports coaching and go work in sales, he said, “ Finlay, people are your super power“. For a few years I carved a living as an outdoor instructor, Skiing, Snowboarding, helming rescue boats, and mounting biking. One cold winters day, a group of clients ( BP Board ) arrived in a fleet of blacked out range rovers, for me to coach. We connected immediately and after a few days they told me, “ You should get into the Oil business, you’d do well” It didn’t take long to realise that I wasn’t going to get that Range Rover or see the world staying on my current trajectory. I hustled my way from board shorts, into banking, first retail then commercial, supporting SME’s on business growth, regularly in the top ten in the country. To me it was easy, I just loved helping others. A banking crisis, a new born son and a burning need to give him a better life, I bet the house and joined the oilfield. For 20 years, I’ve travelled the world building relationships, helping companies make billions of dollars. I support energy companies and those that work for them grow.
