Yesterday, I applied to a freelance content writing position, and a top question was, "How do you proofread a piece of content?"

My response went something like this👇

"My general approach to proofreading is thorough and deliberate. First off, the Grammarly extension stays on, checking for simple grammatical and spelling errors. 

Some other things I do while proofreading: 

👉Read the text out loud. It helps me spot run-on sentences and awkward phrasing.
👉I also read the draft on my phone to catch mobile formatting issues. What looks fine on desktop can feel like a wall of text on mobile.
👉Words like “e-commerce” vs “eCommerce” or “colour” vs “color” can easily slip. I stick to one standard depending on the client’s requirements.
👉I check for the publish dates of linked statistics — while my preference is not more than 3 years old, I could aim for an even shorter publish date for faster-moving industries and evolving stories.
👉I check for words that appear too often in the draft and replace them with better-fitting synonyms to avoid sounding monotonous.

👉And finally, when I’m trying to be extra, I copy and paste the final draft to the Hemingway app to check and optimize its readability score. The standard I try to uphold is Grade 8 or lower."

From TikTok trend to HubSpot article. 
Are we entering the era of creator-led SaaS content? 👀

I religiously followed Christine Elizabeth's story of deceit, courage, and resilience on TikTok. 

The 12-part "Married at 28. Divorcing at 29" series made its rounds and garnered millions of views across platforms. 

But that's not the story.

Earlier this month, I was intrigued when I saw an article about the trending series on the HubSpot blog. 

HubSpot partnered with Christine to share her story in a way that helps influencers — and anyone navigating a public divorce — own their narrative. 

I couldn't help but spot the innovative marketing play at work. Here's what I noticed, and what other brands can learn:

1️⃣‼️Stories often have different audiences, and HubSpot realized that. 
The series didn’t just attract people who could relate to the pain of a narcissistic partner. It also spoke to influencers and creators figuring out how to navigate public crises with grace. HubSpot saw what most brands missed, and in partnership with Christine, created a resource to serve this audience. 

2️⃣‼️Moving forward, the brands that win in marketing aren't going to wait around for Google. HubSpot tapped into Christine's owned media — her TikTok audience. By presenting a paid partnership that allowed her to share her story with dignity and tact, HubSpot earned an audience that was bound to convert in terms of clicks and reads. They entered the conversation where it was already happening instead of waiting for people to search for it later.            

3️⃣‼️One of the downsides of earned audiences is that you don't own or control them. Once the buzz fades, so does your access. To mitigate this, HubSpot was proactive in offering an ultimate guide to influencer marketing, which requires readers to submit their email address to access. 

But they didn't stop there. 

To read the full article, visitors have to drop their email, names, and phone number. This level of content gating would've been off-putting for an average article. It worked because this was a STORY potential readers were already invested in. 😀

The entire sequence from spotting the link to the HubSpot article on Christine Elizabeth's TikTok story, to accessing the promised Ultimate Guide to Influencer Marketing was buttery smooth. 🧈

It's a masterclass in influencer partnership and what could possibly be the future of SaaS content marketing.
