I recently accepted a new role. The hardest one yet.

No interview. No probation period. Not even a training session 😅

→ Survived on 3-hour sleep cycles literally 
→ Learned that "sleeping when the baby sleeps" is a myth 😴

This is by far the biggest role I've ever taken on.

If one more person tells me to “get locked in,” I’ll scream.😭
I locked in for 3 years and had nothing to show for it. 🙄


People think social media managers should do everything. That expectation is already primed for failure.

For 3 years, I did everything:
→ Research & competitor monitoring
→ Client onboarding & coordination
→ Content strategy & calendar
→ Graphic design (sometimes)
→ Email/newsletter marketing
→ Posting & engagement
→ Video editing
→ Blog writing

I felt like this made me a good SMM. Indispensable.

Yet my analytics were embarrassing😔.
I’d submit reports and feel deep, stomach-churning shame. Because I knew I was better than this.

I couldn’t take more than 2 clients at a time, I was drowning in tasks.

And the worst part?
I was too scared to delegate because what if they mess it up even more?

I kept asking: “How can I do this faster?”
When I should have been asking:
“How can I build a system so the next person can produce the same standard or better work?”

Because the truth is, I was doing the work of 7 people.
No one can grow that way.

Optimization = doing tasks faster yourself.
Systemization = building processes so others can do them.

I spent 3 years optimizing myself into burnout.

And when I broke in May 2025, everything stopped.
That forced my hand. (More on that tomorrow)

If you’re drowning right now, here’s what to do:
→ Pick ONE task you do every week
→ Record yourself doing it (screen or voice)
→ Write the steps in simple language
→ Test it: Give it to someone else to follow
→ Refine based on their questions

That’s your first system.
→ Hire a VA (or specialist) to take over.

Repeat this for every recurring task.

In 3 months, you’ll have a business that gets results. 💯 
One that runs without you being the bottleneck.

Because the best way to create results that scale is by creating a system where everyone does what they’re best at.

Even you.

PS: How many people’s work are you doing right now?

In May of 2025, I got a “Thank you for your service” email. Just like that, my longest client was gone. 🥹

No warning. No conversation. Just… gone.

I’d worked with her for over 2 years. That stability felt safe. More like a remote 9-5.

And that’s exactly where I went wrong.🤦🏼‍♀️

I’d become complacent. I stopped actively marketing myself. Stopped reaching out to new leads. Convinced myself I couldn’t take on more work anyway, so why bother?

I tried to understand what happened.
Turns out, another team offered to do it for less.
That was it.

I sat there, pregnant, exhausted, staring at my screen.
Suddenly without my “safe” income.😌

I had one other client left.
The logical move? Panic. Replace the income immediately.

But something in me had shifted.
I realized I’d become comfortable and that comfort almost destroyed me.

So I did two things:
1. I let go of my remaining client and took a break.
(Yes, I know that sounds insane. More on that tomorrow.😅)

2. I built a cold email outreach system for consistent marketing.

Because here’s what I learned the hard way:
Your marketing should NEVER stop.
Not when you’re busy.
Not when things feel comfortable.

Because comfortable is dangerous.
Comfortable means you’re one email away from crisis.

Consistent outreach = consistent pipeline.

That’s why I created the free pitching challenge for my community in October. 63 professionals participated.

People finally understood that Some doors don’t open unless you knock.

And when you master consistent outreach, you’ll never run out of opportunities.

I didn’t grow up in a privileged environment. Up until 2021 when I moved to Lagos, I believed education was my only way out.

The progression looked like this:
Study hard → Make good grades → Get a job (but there are no jobs in that sence 🫠) → Start a small business (hairdressing/tailoring) → Survive.

That was it.

Then I came to Lagos and saw a whole new world.

Teens learning digital skills and working with international clients. Students building personal brands. Final year students applying for scholarships abroad…

None of which I knew was possible.

In 5 years of changing my environment:
→ I learned a skill (social media marketing)
→ Worked with 13+ clients across Nigeria, US, UK, Dubai, Poland, Thailand
→ Started my MBA at University of East London
→ Co-founded Elima Creatives (& delivering great results).

The thing about growing up in an unprivileged environment? It primes you for mediocrity.

Not because you’re not capable.
But because you don’t know what’s possible.
No one around you does.

I have an MBA in marketing but for 3 years, I was ashamed to show my portfolio. Here’s the mistake that kept me broke and burnt out. 👇🏽

When I started social media marketing, my goal was to hit $10k/month ASAP.

Then I saw my results. I knew it couldn’t earn me that money.

For 3 years, I worked 14 - 16 hours a day managing social media accounts.

My highest earning month? $1,500.

My average monthly impressions per client? 2,000 - 3,000.

I have an MBA in Marketing but I was ashamed to show my portfolio. Because the truth was brutal:

My results didn’t reflect my knowledge nor my efforts.
(In this field, numbers are everything💯)
