I am a senior data analyst passionate about using my data skills to improve business outcomes.

Over the years as a data analyst I have gained valuable experience writing complex SQL code, building user-friendly dashboards that drive action, and writing Python code to elevate analysis (recent projects include logistic regression and calculating the distances between over 100,000 addresses).

2) You’re here to learn about my content creation.

I started making content on TikTok about how to become a data analyst in September 2022.

In that time, I have gained over 240k followers among platforms and found a ton of fulfillment seeing many use my tutorials to land jobs.

If you aren’t landing ANY data analyst interviews, don’t blame it on the job market.

The job market sucks and makes it hard to land a job, but for every job, many more people get screened, so you should at least be getting recruiter screenings.

The problem also isn’t with your skills.

Once you land interviews, that’s when your knowledge and skills will be on full display.

Instead the issue lies with with one of the following:
• your job search strategy
• your resume
• your LinkedIn
• your portfolio
• your network (or lack thereof)

To land an interview, it’s all about marketing yourself.

So if you’re confident in your skills but aren’t landing an interview, taking that 8th SQL course won’t land you an interview.

Instead focus on making the five things above as good as possible.

Honestly, once your comfortable with your skills, you should keep learning, but you should shift a lot of your effort towards networking.

That’s what will set you apart most in a competitive market.

I had the opportunity to visit SAS’s headquarters a couple weeks ago, and here are 3 big takeaways for data analysts:

1. SAS Viya Workbench for Learners

SAS Viya Workbench for Learners is a cloud-based development environment where you can write code in SQL, R, Python, or obviously SAS.

You can also use it to connect straight to GitHub so you can use it to build your data analyst portfolio.

And it’s free for students!

2. SAS Certifications

SAS offers certifications in many different things including topics like AI & Machine Learning, Regression & Modeling, and visual business analytics.

Product certifications like these are very valuable, and if you are a student, you can get discounts to make them even more affordable.

3. LinkedIn stats

SAS held a career fair while I was there and I learned the following stats about LinkedIn.

• Adding a photo and background photo garners 21 times as many profile views

•Adding up to date work experience gets you 8x more profile views

• Those with volunteer experience get 6x more profile views than those who don’t

• Members who add 5+ skills get 16x more profile views

LinkedIn members are 4x more likely to get hired when referred

So as I preach all the time, your LinkedIn game matters!

I had such a good time at SAS and learned way more than I could fit here.
