As the Head of the Architectural Unit, I overseee the actualisation of the master plan of the University. 
🔹️Formulate policies that guide architectural design of educational buildings 
🔹️Craft architectural designs for various classrooms, offices, laboratories, workshops, hostels, auditoriums, restaurants and shops and  supervise their constructions.
🔹️ Conduct post occupancy evaluation for university buildings
🔹️ Develop schedule of dilapidations for moribund school buildings 
🔹️ Lead in-house supervision team for university buildings' construction, including quantity surveyors, builders, services engineers, town planners, clerk of works, and geologists.

Led, managed and coordinated the design and technical inputs of a team of 7 multidisciplinary professional firms, including Quantity Surveyors, Structural Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Land Surveyors, Media consultants, and Financial Consultant in an international market project of 180+ building blocks, resolving conflicts, meeting targets, reducing design completion and packaging time by 15%, slashing construction cost by 20%, and winning client's commendations.

Boosted client satisfaction by 40% and won referrals through superior brief analysis and synthesis, the production of functional and satisfactory architectural designs and timely completion of building construction works

Successfully oversaw the construction of a 60-room hotel with ancillary facilities, such as swimming pool, outdoor bar and gate house, supervised the contractor, subcontractors, suppliers and a team of 100+ tradesmen, cutting wastage rate by 20% and maintaining high quality in the construction stages by adhering to standards.

Architectural Intern

The blend of a practicing architect, researcher, mentor and lecturer, best describes Edidiong Ukpong. 

He holds a BSc (2¹), an MSc (Distinction) and a PhD in Architecture. The PhD focused on daylighting evaluation of school buildings in the tropical wet and dry climate. The study findings are applicable in tropical building designs for a better indoor daylighting experience.

% ......Edidiong is a winner of the Nigerian Institute of Architects Professional Practice Examination's Overall Best Candidate Award. 
%........He came out the best candidate in 2 of the 3 papers and second best position in the last paper.

Currently, he works with the University of Uyo as a licensed architect and has headed the Parks and Gardens Unit for many years. He is also on part-time, as a Principal Architect in ED83 (an architectural firm). Before now, he has been an architectural intern/ CAD /Revit technician for many years in the private sector (with different companies in Nigeria).

For 16+ years in private and public sectors, he has designed (presentation and working drawings) and supervised the construction of educational, residential, religious and commercial buildings, winning referrals, commendations, recommendations, superior client satisfaction, cutting construction cost, wastage rate and construction time while maintaining high quality of delivery and meeting company's target.

He has mentored, on volunteer basis, many interns and students (at undergraduate, MSc and PhD levels) in the field of architecture (architectural design, research method, building climatology, professional practice, problem solving technique, CAD and Revit skills) as he has an uncanny knack for architectural education and the upbringing of the younger colleagues. He has optimised student satisfaction, presentation, communication and design skills, student/industry liaison, career opportunities and led students to winning laurels in national design competition and reduced dropout rate among architecture students.

He has interest in indoor/outdoor environmental quality with focus on daylighting, energy monitoring, post occupancy evaluation, and sustainability. He has published some papers in these directions in WOS/ Clarivate analytics journals.

How to write a lit review

Frank Gehry (1929-2025) lives on.
(The architect who refused the straight line).
He didn’t just design buildings. 
He 
—bent reality, 
—softened steel, and 
—proved that space can hold emotion.

What moved me most was how he stretched the questions we ask in architectural research:
→ How does form shape emotion?
→ How far can materials be pushed?
→ What if movement becomes a design language?

His work didn’t only shift skylines.
It shifted inquiry.
It shifted imagination.
It shifted what researchers consider possible.

Gehry showed that research isn’t only solving problems. It’s also:
→ Challenging assumptions
→ Testing the improbable
→ Trusting the unexpected
→ Pushing the edge of what’s allowed

His experiments with 
form + structure + digital fabrication
