Dr. Amy is a Geriatrician and Director of Statewide Graduate Medical Education at the Virginia Health Workforce Development Authority (VHWDA), an organization that supports the health and wellness of Virginians through workforce policy, development, and innovation. She is a clinician with 15 years of experience caring for patients in healthcare systems in various countries. She also has 10 years of experience caring for older adults and their families across the continuum, with a specialty in Home Care Medicine.

She is passionate about wellness and health for family caregivers and the creation of health policies and educational programs to support them. She holds an MS in Health Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University, the third-rated program in the country, and a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification. She is also a producer and host of The Longest Goodbye Podcast, an international speaker, and a board member of the Central Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. She leverages her expertise in creative and innovative systems design, culture, and strategy creation, design thinking, coaching and mentoring, caregiver education and support, and data collection and analysis using the Salesforce platform to drive impact and innovation in her current role and beyond.

RVA Walk to End Alzheimer’s yesterday was nothing short of amazing! We had such a great turnout from our Richmond community and our Chapter has raised $1 million to support the Alzheimer's Association®. Thanks to Madison Wilkins, Lissa Greenlee, Rachel Lawson, Craig Shealy, Matthew McDavid, Elizabeth Watson and all of our walk leadership for their hard work.

I was proud to attend the Dean’s Forum at the Medical Society of Virginia (MSV)’s Annual Conference this year with Henry W. Lewis III. The conversation about workforce extended beyond the traditional pipeline of medical students, with insights about AI in education and strategies that the Commonwealth can use to retain its medical students. Thank you to the Medical Society of Virginia (MSV) for inviting the VHWDA to the academic deans forum this past weekend! We contributed to the conversation about advancing medical education in the Commonwealth, as well as solutions to Virginia's physician workforce shortage.  Together, we will work toward a bright future for our Commonwealth!

"So easy, even a 5-year-old can do it!" proclaimed my 9-year-old, gleeful that her sibling had stumped me with his math gymnastics.

And stumped I was. 

This has become one of my favorite daily practices – letting my kids challenge me with mental math. 
Not because I enjoy being wrong in front of them (though they certainly enjoy it), but because our brains need this kind of workout.

In our world of autocomplete, calculators, and AI assistants, we're outsourcing more and more of our thinking. But cognitive challenge is exactly what keeps our brains sharp and builds resilience against decline.

Which brings me to why this matters so much to me: 
I'm participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's this year, because 6.9 million families don't have the luxury that we now have of dementia prevention. 
The work this walk supports results in the brain health of us, our children and our grandchildren.
