I was lying awake, night after night, worrying about work. 

I’d known for a while that things weren’t right, but I kept pushing through, working harder and bottling up how I felt.

It was taking me hours to fall asleep, with thoughts spiralling. And if you’ve had sleep problems, you’ll know those thoughts rarely make sense when you’re exhausted.

Eventually, I had to speak to my boss. 

It was one of the hardest conversations I’ve had - admitting I wasn’t happy felt like a failure, especially after investing so much into the role. 

But the relief once I'd had the conversation was huge.

What I later realised was that I’d burnt myself out (helped along also by some powerful forty-something hormones, so not a great mix!)

However, that difficult period led to my greatest career decision. 

I’m grateful I took time out to reflect on what mattered. 

I asked myself: 
>What do I want my future life to look like? 
>How should work fit in? 
>What do I still love and know I’m good at? 

That space led to Narrate Your Career being created and I’ve only looked forward since.
