I understand the cycle of healthcare in the current environment in America incentivizes driving prices upward year over year. I know where the carriers hide fees, how the hospital networks and PCP consortiums stay within their networks only, how simple things like labs and x-rays can absolutely demolish plan renewals and costs, and how to get those things under control with the right design and incentives.

If you’re in sales or rev ops or anything that supports them, as well as corporate finance, you need to follow the SDR community on here, and especially for your own industry. 

They share a lot of early economic signs that can indicate how the market overall is performing and responding, even if they don’t realize it. 

By watching how sales are responding to tech stack sales, you’ll get a good idea of where the economy is headed quickly. 

Is it expanding? Contracting? Consolidating? Evolving?

Plus, they’re just a positive crowd to have on your feed.

As a licensed insurance producer with experience in commercial liability and group benefits, I bring expertise to co-employment/PEO that is unusual and deeper than most. 

I promise to be a human in our interactions, shoot you straight, and be genuine. I value relationships where the other party does the same. 

I'm huge on referral relationships. I'm the guy who knows a guy who can help, and I'm always glad to introduce you to whomever you need.

As for me as a real person? I like to golf, swim, sport shoot, and I play the piano and classical guitar. 

I serve regularly in my church and community- I value those around me and want to help them physically, spiritually and emotionally.

I love business, but I’m a total psychology nerd. The human brain is so fascinating to me- and it’s probably why I drifted toward sales and marketing in my career. 

Also: there’s never a problem so bad it can’t be solved.

When you’re having a risk conversation with a real risk advisor, they are going to need information on your business and employees. 

They’re putting their reputation in their internal community on the line on your behalf. 

The more info you give them, the more truthful you are, and the less you hide, the faster you’ll get to the results that are the most favorable. 

Hiding and/or concealing info doesn’t “give you the advantage.”

It prevents underwriters and agents from seeing the whole picture, gets you coverage that doesn’t meet your needs, and if it’s bad enough, can be considered a material misrepresentation (read: fraud). 

Best to be upfront.

If I never found myself in the Twin Cities in the dead of winter ever again, it would be entirely too soon. 

Love all you wonderful people there, you’re so kind. The good version of it, not just “nice.” 

Hate your weather. Gosh.

Which is more risky, fully insured or self-funded group health plans?

I’ve heard both sides of this.

I have my opinions. 

And boy do CFOs think they’re right, no matter which they choose. 

But whatever you do, don’t have the wild hubris of a recent story I heard where the CFO insisted the group didn’t need stop loss insurance and ended up paying out a very large claim out of the company’s coffers.

I think I know how this is gonna go, but let’s have at it!

You’re not “dynamic.”

Nobody even knows what that means anymore. 

Get it out of your people. 

Get it off your resume. 

It a buzzword and it sounds stupid.

Have a dynamic day, or something.

I have two way I find new clients:

1. Referral relationships. Clients, partners, friends, other agents who don’t want to sell the group piece.

2. Cold: I pick up the phone and/or walk in their door after warming them up on email. 

That’s it. That’s all I do.
