"I tried to trade in my car, but the dealership only wanted to give me $2,000 when I thought it should have been worth at least $9,000.  Then, the dealership said my car had frame damage!  I told them that was impossible since I was never in an accident the entire time I owned the car, and I bought it with a clean CarFax. Or... so I thought. I returned from out of town to find three new speed bumps in my neighborhood.  We have small children in the area so I understood the need to slow down the drivers.  One of the speed bumps was so large, though, that it was impossible to drive over it in my Ford Mustang without bottoming out.  I contacted the president of my HOA and she was super defensive - it was her call to install these speed bumps. I was friendly, but argued that the one speed bump was just too high. She said, 'Too late. They're permanent, there's nothing we can do.'  I didn't know who else to turn to, so I called (legal plan)'s provider law firm.  The attorney did some research and concluded that the size of the speed bump was indeed unreasonable and wrote a letter on my behalf.  I was overjoyed (and so was my Mustang) when, 5 days later, I drove up to a crew of workers wearing welding masks as they worked to skim the top off that speed bump to reduce it to a reasonable size. We'd leased a beautiful home in San Diego for two years, and made sure it was in excellent condition before moving out -- far better than when we moved in!  During the walk-through with a leasing agent, she kept thanking us for how great the house looked.  We handed her the keys, said goodbyes then started the drive toward our new home in Austin.  Within a week, the leasing company wrote us they'd return our $3500 deposit LESS $1450 for the 'huge gouge in the rosewood floors of the dining room'.  We said it must have happened after we gave the keys back and sent photos we'd taken during the walk-through.  We went round and round with them, and when they accused us of editing the time stamps on the photos, we called our new Texas Provider Law Firm.  Since it was a CA issue, they forwarded our issue to the California Provider Law Firm, and a CA attorney called us, had us send in everything we had to review, then they fired off a 2 1/2 page letter, using all sorts of legalese and citing the hundreds of complaints against them from other tenants who *also* didn't get their deposit back, either.  Within one week, via certified mail, we received a cashier's check for $1450."

Back in 2017, my family of 5 had been renting a house for 15 years when the owner decided to sell the house. We got no notification of this, as you would think you would. “My wife paid $700.00 to a state-licensed training school established to help people acquire professional certifications. The certification required a class which was scheduled for a particular date when my wife signed up, but the school postponed and rescheduled the class twice. People ask me all the time, why would I need a lawyer? Take a look at this list and think back on all the times it would've been beneficial to have the advise from a top rated, full service law firm. "I was dealing with my apt complex and trying to get them to fix the gap in one of my windows. It was letting air in and heat out. It was causing an unusually high electric bill.
I told the complex, and hey had someone take a look and I showed them the gap.
Complex said the window people had the part on back order. Ok, they said it'd take 26 weeks. Covid was just now starting to let up so supplies were backed up. I get it,
but the trouble really started when i asked for a temporary fix of plastic.
The complex said no. All windows just look alike and I can't have plastic.
I called my LegalShield attorney and they told me who to call (zoning) to make a complaint.
I did this and then the complex agreed to put plastic on the window's.

Fast forward now it's time for the new windows to come in (more than 26 weeks later) 😐. I ask the complex when are they going to fix them? Now new workers are there. I told them the vendor who had the part from last time. I was told only use their new vendor and ID and I need to wait 6 more weeks.

Ok at this point I needed my LegalShield attorney to push more. So I called and they said they'd write a letter for me. This was on Monday. By Friday the complex called me "oh good news. We will have glass doctors (the previous vendor who they no longer used according to them), to install your windows next week.

So it took me having the attorney to write a letter and all of a sudden I get windows fixed in a week.

What I learned is I should've gotten the  attorney to write a letter the first time. I thought since they were going to do the temporaries fix that maybe they were going to follow through and do the right thing by me. Never making that mistake again!

Any issues in future, I'm letting the attorney write that letter right away because some of these companies out here don't take you seriously unless you're an attorney.

A good friend of mine has been an attorney for about 25 years, and, like all lawyers, he specializes in a specific area of law. "A young man on his parent's (legal plan) was a pre-architecture college student in Cleveland, Ohio. He rented an old high-ceiling loft apartment in for a year while at school. The rules for the loft was to hang/attach nothing to the walls. So, the student built a free-standing loft system that turned his 1 floor into 2, providing living and study space below with sleeping space above. Upon graduation, the student was accepted at a graduate school in Boston, and he was at the end of his lease. The landlord said he must leave the free standing loft -threatened to keep his deposit if he didn't. "I got to help an out-of-state gentleman tonight who's been taken advantage of by two different auto repair shops!  He has a Corvette and had paid more than $7,000 for a new engine, thousands more for parts and labor, and still hasn't been able to drive his car since last August.  Frustrated, he used a second auto shop which discovered the first place switched out some of his original parts for aftermarket parts, but they still charged him labor and his car still runs too hot to take home.  The second place offers to send his car home since they're also charging him storage fees, but he refuses to take it until it’s properly repaired!  The new engine is under warranty.   He found an attorney online who has already billed him over $3,000.00 without even speaking with the auto shops yet, and he's getting billed each time his attorney calls HIM to check on the status of events.
