Practera

As a mentor for the AEWEN program, I support international students through a 3-week program hosted by Practera, in conjunction with the Department of Trade, Tourism and Investment.

Adelaide Engage – Work Experience Network (AEWEN) is an international student-focused program, bringing student teams and employers together. 

The program encourages clients (local businesses, councils, professional associations and not-for-profits) to interact with international students, creating an opportunity for students to improve their confidence, learn about project management, and the Australian work culture.

As a Success Coach in Business and Education, I worked with students to leverage their natural strengths and align their learning with their broader life purpose. 

Through one-on-one conversations, hosting workshops and group activities, I coach students to successfully navigate the educational landscape and build personal and professional capability. 

With a focus on the student’s career goals, and trained in Gallup's CliftonStrengths, I take a strengths-based approach to engage with and motivate students for study and career success, improve their employability outcomes, including self-employment and entrepreneurship.

Drawing on over 20 years in business, including building a design and marketing agency and more recently a coaching practice, I share my experiences and networks with the students and the university to create opportunities and the best student and life outcomes possible.

As part of the South Australian Young Entrepreneur Scheme [SAYES], I served on a panel of mentors who interviewed and selected candidates for the program [and associated grants] as well as mentored participants.
Each mentor offered professional skills in business, management, finance, entrepreneurship, leadership, etc. We guided participants through the process of developing a business plan and taking their product to market.
For me, the opportunity to help budding young entrepreneurs, the future of our state and country, to get their ideas out to the world, commercially, is hugely rewarding. It also honed my skills in leadership and coaching, for both business and life. After all, the two are intrinsically connected.
