👨🏽‍🏫   Design education and mentoring: I teach and mentor on UX/UI design and web development, with training courses at Armada, Codigo, Flatiron School and Skills Union.

My key skills include: no-code/low-code development, rapid prototyping, UI design, persona development, user journey mapping, workshop facilitation, usability testing, front-end web development.

My favourite tools: design in Figma, build in Webflow and Shopify, apps in Glide, integrations in Make and Zapier.

Super excited to share something we've been working on with our friends at Sky ☁️

When Sky came to MakeBuild last year, they already had a strong Webflow capability.

What they needed was a faster, more scalable way to build new sites without recreating the same foundations every time.

Liam Mews led the way on creating a comprehensive design system in Webflow, translated from their existing Sky UI kit. The result? A comprehensive, dev-ready component library that their skilled developer can truly own, adapt, and scale.

Today, it's giving their teams the freedom to move quickly without sacrificing consistency or quality. Huge thanks to Georgina Smith, Ali Savage, Ian Appleton the wider Sky team for being such thoughtful, collaborative partners throughout.

Sky + MakeBuild: building smarter with a design system in Webflow

This week, a few of the MakeBuild team took a field trip to the Design Museum to check out the Wes Anderson exhibition.

What stood out to me was the discipline behind the work. Every detail is intentional. There's absolutely nothing accidental. Everything serves the story.

It’s a useful reminder for us as a studio: high-quality work isn’t about big gestures - it’s about sweating the small stuff, consistently, on every project.

Also: getting out of the studio together matters more than we probably realise. More field trips in 2026, team? 👀

Looking back over the last 12 months, this community has helped me discover new talent to join MakeBuild, build friendships and travel the world!

Shout out Veronica Hsiao Mary Findley Tracy Rivas Blaire Van Dusen (McClure) and many more who are taking the Webflow community to new heights!

Last year, we helped our friends at Typeform migrate 4,000+ pages to Webflow with zero downtime - a project that, on paper, sounds purely technical.

In reality, the hardest (and most important) parts had nothing to do with the CMS.

What made it work was:

→ getting marketing, design, and engineering aligned early
→ investing time upfront in workshops and shared understanding
→ building a system that worked for teams long after launch

The migration mattered, but the long-term impact mattered more: we wanted to give the Typeform team the ability to launch faster with fewer bottlenecks, so they could feel confident using the website, without the help of a developer. 

With so much renewed focus on design systems and scale recently, this felt worth resurfacing!

I wrote this article [link in the comments!] after having the same conversation with marketing teams more times than I can count.

Free CMS platforms are incredible, and can be really useful early on. Quick to launch and easy to justify, especially to your finance dept. But as teams grow, it’s usually marketers who start to feel the cracks first - IYKYK! 🫠

Things like:
➞ Simple updates slowly turn into “can someone from dev take a look?”
➞ Workarounds piling up as campaigns, regions, and experiments increase
➞ Performance and security becoming things you worry about right before a launch (never ideal!)

This isn’t a takedown of free CMS tools like Wordpress - they absolutely have their place and I've built sites with many of them over the years. It’s more about being honest about where your team is headed, and what website platform will best meet their needs as your marketing operations scale up!
