Those experiences taught me one truth: even the most capable leaders struggle when collaboration breaks - between peers, boards, or teams. 

That realization became my calling.

I was about to run a red light in Jaipur last week.

The car ahead of me did. Just squeezed through as the light turned red.

My instant reaction? Judgment.

"Look at this guy. Can't wait 30 seconds."

Then I caught myself.

I was about to do the same thing. I was in a hurry too. Had somewhere important to be.

That's when I noticed something unusual on the signal.

A red heart ❤️...

Glowing where the red light 🔴 usually is.

A beautiful touch by Jaipur Traffic Police - bringing a little heart into discipline.

Something shifted.

My focus dropped from my racing thoughts into my chest.

Into that heart symbol staring back at me.

A smile came... 😊

- The irritation dissolved.
- The urgency softened.

For those 30 seconds, I just… breathed.

Later, I kept thinking about that moment.

How a simple heart symbol did what no amount of traffic rules could do.

It made me pause.
Made me center.

As a coach, I’ve observed:

Many leaders move through life as if every signal is green - 
rushing, pushing, reacting -

Even when life is quietly showing them a red light (a heart)… asking them to pause and feel and look at life differently.

And I’ve lived this myself -
the next meeting, the next target, the next fire to put out…
and the personal worries that quietly sit underneath it all.

Red lights aren’t just for traffic safety.

They're invitations to come back to yourself.

To center.

To notice what’s actually happening inside you beneath all that urgency.

Because as a leader when you're always running red lights - ignoring the signals telling you to pause - you eventually crash.

Not into another car.

- Into burnout.
- Into broken relationships.
- Into decisions made from stress instead of clarity.

That heart on the red light?

It was a reminder I didn’t know I needed.

Sometimes the most powerful thing a leader can do is:

1. To stop.

2. Drop from the head into the heart.

And ask:

“What signal is life giving me right now…and am I paying attention?”

"What sign could you create for yourself… to remind you to pause and feel?”

We spent an hour mapping it out. Two calls lined up. One truth-teller identified.

She texted me the next morning:
“Already feels different knowing I’m not doing this alone.”

That’s it. That’s the shift. -
Not a better plan. Not working harder.
