Clients often ask for RAW footage, and sometimes I want to show them what that actually looks like.

RAW footage is flat, dull, and washed out. It is meant for flexibility in post-production, not for posting as-is. Unless the look is intentional, you never want to share ungraded footage.

I loved filming on this rooftop at Tnemec Company, Inc. where they were testing the durability of their coatings. The colors were incredible, and color correction brought them to life. This shoot was filmed in full sun obviously with an ND filter, and the Kansas heat was no joke that day.

RAW files can absolutely be part of a project if clients want them, but it is always worth remembering that this is how they look straight out of the camera.

Holiday deals got me. I grabbed a few upgrades for my camera gear because the Black Friday pricing was too good to pass up.
Will these accessories help my business? Yes and no.

We always aim to deliver the highest level of quality on every project, and better tools make the work faster, more dynamic, and more efficient on set. 
But the real reason people invest in video is not the gear. It is the strategy.

Clients come to us to

The planning that happens before the cameras roll and the choices we make in post are where the real value lives. The gear simply supports that work.

This post is also just me showing off how excited I am about the upgrades. I cannot wait to use them on set.

Trying to look cool while launching my drone.
Cut to a few seconds later when I lost signal and had a mini panic attack. 

I was in a stunning place and thought it'd be cool to capture the drone taking off straight from my hand. Pretty cinematic, right? 

Got the launch shot for LinkedIn, started recording from the drone, but then lost RC signal for about 30 seconds that were filled with sheer panic. Not a lot of things to hit where I was but luckily, it reconnected shortly after and I flew it right back to me with no issues.

Still got this video out of it and honestly, totally worth it. I swear I know what I'm doing most of the time...

There's something refreshing about a business that refuses to scale just because they can.

Last week, I finally got my hands on my first Melanzana fleece after waiting six months for a shopping appointment.

For those unfamiliar, "Melly" is a specialty shop in Leadville, Colorado with the most unconventional business model I've ever seen.

One location. Six-month wait times. Two-item purchase limit.
They sell a handful of products in random colors you can't preview online.

Their website is basic. Their videos are simple. Their marketing is practically nonexistent.

Yet they have an enormous, devoted following.

While most brands chase expansion and franchising opportunities, Melanzana stays true to their values.

They're proud of their community and their Colorado-made products. They've built something sustainable without constantly seeking outside validation or opinions.

Standing in their small shop last week, surrounded by other patient customers who had also waited months for this moment, I realized something important.

They hacked the system by ignoring the system entirely.

Sometimes the best marketing strategy is making something people genuinely love and refusing to compromise your principles for growth.

What does staying true to your values look like in your business?

There are only so many ways I can explain why video works, but here's a stat that always gets attention: 80 percent of audiences recall a brand after experiencing a compelling video.

Working with the Tnemec team on their brand story and client highlight video with Acelab was an absolute blast. Their Kansas City campus was incredible to film, and every step of their manufacturing and R&D process showed why they are leaders in their field.

Creating content does not always require a massive crew.

The energy on set was great, and it reminded me that having fun while creating is just as important as the final product.

Eric has millions of views on his videos, and this is often how we make it happen. Me with two cameras, typically one on a tripod and another on a stabilizer. We capture everything with high quality and can pivot the plan instantly when needed.
