My tech-reflection of the past 42 years.

I'm a Millenial.
Generation Y.
Or Generation WHY?!

Part of the generation that lived through different tech waves in their childhood and youth.

Kids playing outside.
Reading books, newspapers, magazines.
Ringing on doorbells to get friends out.
Finding your friends without maps, even if you are late.

→ 𝗣𝗖 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲
Floppy discs. What today's kids know as "the save icon".
8 / 5.25 / 3.5 inch.
Then CD ROMs.

→ 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘀
Wow that was new! Portable music!
Then discmans.
MP3 player.
iPod.

→ 𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 - 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀.

And friends.
And play snake.

Pageloads took minutes.
No phone calls while surfing.
Pay per minute, then for speed packages.

→ 𝗟𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗽𝘀
That could do more than only running MS Office!
Even with access to the internet.

→ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲
Blackberries.
Nokias with screens.
All with limited internet access.

→ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲 - 𝗶𝗣𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘃𝘀. 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗶𝗱
The internet in your pocket.
Disrupted all of the above.
Even the relationship to our friends.
Negatively, because we meet so seldom.
Positively, because we exchange more often.
And we make friends with people all over the world.

All of this happened in my childhood and youth.
I am very happy that I had a 100% offline childhood.

Now at an age in which the midlife crisis should soon knock on my door (where is my yacht? or should I make a world trip? 🤔😂), the next big tech innovation:

→ 𝗔𝗜
Large Language Models.
AI Agents.
AI native tools.
Soon to come: World Language Models.

And once again, all of the above will be disrupted.

It has started already.

To change the way we think, exchange, communicate, use and spread information, and get things done and work.

In our private and professional lives.

Where I stand on this evolution:

I am excited about the chances it brings us.
Both on a private and on a professional level.

And at the same time, I'm deeply worried.

As I said in a couple of interviews in the past weeks (soon to be published):

I believe the most important question to answer in the AI adoption race is: Why do all major models lie in the hands of private companies in the US and China that work together with their governments?

That's data security & safety nightmare.

We outsource our souls.

We need sovereign, privacy-first, and fair models in Europe that are competitive to the well known ones.

𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝘆 𝗯𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗱𝗮𝘆.

I'm full of worries.
And I'm I'm also full of excitement and curiosity.

Been through all of the major tech shifts, I'm very happy that I live in this era.

It's on us to shape our children's future well.

After reviewing different alternatives, I chose to go with Framer. Now Adam Baldwin ⭐ is rebuilding my website in Framer.

Vacation:
Booking.com in the first place, checking places on HomeToGo instead of Airbnb. So far I haven't needed it but it became my second option right after Booking for family vacation.

Trips:
GetYourGuide for inspiration for trips and tickets.

Mail, Drive:
I'm checking out Proton to replace Gmail & G-Drive. Still need to try to replace G-Docs & G-Sheets and see how it goes.
Also I'm looking for a way to move my documents from Google to Proton. Maybe I'll need a Proton for business subscription.

Cloud Storage:
pCloud AG and then before you upload any file you need to switch to Swiss Servers and encryption. That costs something but it's okay.

AI Chat:
I'm also testing lumo.proton.me compared to ChatGPT and Claude. Let's see.

AI Agents:
n8n for the win.
Still looking for a European Zapier / Relay alternative.
Maybe I should start something in this space ;)

Landingpages:
I am using Carrd a lot but I'm planning to see how much I can move over to Softr. On my todo list.

Translations:
DeepL over ChatGPT. ALWAYS DeepL!

Payment:
Well... Stripe is very good.
I'm checking out Paddle.

Planning, organisation:
I was using Toggle for time tracking. On my todo list to try it for my own project management.

Figure out how to make Apertus (check swiss-ai[.]org ) work with n8n for my agents. And if it's actually as performant as models from OpenAI and Anthropic.

And also todo: Find a European Voice2Text solution that is not based on OpenAI's Whisper.

3 days ago Softr launched their Vibe Coding Blocks!

This is super cool!

Because now you can ad features that would require someone to code.

Is Softr going to become the next vibe coding tool made in Europe?

I'm gonna try it out....

Google increased its Workspace pricing with a cheeky message translating into: "We slapped AI features on you, we don't fucking care if you use them, but because we built them and have maintenance costs we'll charge you more. You can use these features if you want to feel better about the price."

That's how I feel.

Thank you Google.

My gender experiment part 1: Did my reach and engagement go up? No.

I have ONLY changed my gender from "not set" to "male".

That was on 24.11. - 2 weeks ago.

Comparing with the 2 weeks before that, I don't see any difference in the aggregated numbers.

In fact, engagement went down.

Looking at each post separately, trying to see a pattern: There is none.

Some insights:

• I've got posts with 100 reactions and only 2000 views, and others with 100 reactions and 5000 views. No clue what's the difference.
• Comments and reactions from the same group of people reached only a little number of followers, even if impression was about 6000.
• Posts with lots of saves and shares create more impressions than posts with similar reactions and comments but without saves and shares.
• But there is NO pattern in my posts like "when you have x reactions plus y comments plus z shares and some saves, then impression will be at least X000."

Which leaves me with the conclusion that LinkedIn is truly.....random.

Next phase in my test will be to change my name and profile picture for a limited time.

But not now. I'm too busy running in-house workshops until Christmas holidays.

We are concerned about the dependency of European institutions on technology that is made in countries that don't care about privacy and integrity.

We believe more countries need to do something about it.

And more companies in the tech industry need to care and take action, joining forces and building sovereign technology.

Based on our fundamental European values, beliefs and strength: Privacy-first.

We need to do something.

Now is the time.

Micro changes and macro changes.

Every single person can do something: Change your tech stack and use European alternatives. I'm in the middle of it. I keep writing about my progress.

And every company can do something: Change your tech stack as much as possible.

And then, there are companies who can join the movement and build forces with the companies that stand behind the EuroStack.

Let's change our perception of dependency.
Let's build on our core values.

That's going to be part of my 2026 journey. And probably even longer.
