Last night, I did something that made me cringe so bad.

I looked at a bunch of my old LinkedIn posts. From 2, 3, even 4 years ago.

When I first started posting, it was the first time in my career that I could finally speak freely.

The muzzle was off… and I didn’t hold back!

But you know what? It was all part of the process that got me here.

Looking back reminded me how much I’ve grown. Not just as a professional, but as a person.

Maybe I’ll look back again in a few years and cringe at what I’m posting today. Maybe I won’t.

But I do know one thing: I’ll never stop growing.

We named our team the GOATs ironically.
A year ago, we started from scratch.
Lots of players who’d never even picked up a bat.

After plenty of butt-whippings, my co-coach Stuart Reeves, and I now have a group of boys who can compete with anyone.

And before all is said and done, we just might live up to that acronym.

Some of us really need to change our writing style here on LinkedIn (me included).

Many of us have been posting content for a long time, and a lot of us picked up writing habits by listening to the early LinkedIn gurus.

Well guess what?

AI learned from that. And now everyone is using AI to write this way.

I’m not sure about you, but I’m not a fan of AI generated content. And I’m definitely not a fan of automated engagement / DM strategies.

I want to connect with real humans, so we can share real value with one another.

If you’re part of the 99% that doesn’t create content on here, consider starting. In your own unique style, of course. 

It will help drown out some of the nonsense, and maybe even be good for your career!

Here’s a list of metrics that every growing service business should track, but I don’t:

- monthly outreach
- monthly meetings
- conversion rate
- client acquisition
- revenue

I just focus on two things:

1) quality service for current clients
2) creating content for you

Who are you?

You’ve worked hard. You’ve been successful. You’ve accumulated assets.

And now, it’s time for you to cash in on that success. By downshifting to less demanding work that allows you to finally prioritize your family over your career.

With another 20 years of compounding returns, you’ll have plenty of money in your 60s.

And since you can stop saving for retirement, you only need to earn enough to pay your bills and live a happy life.

So, I’ll keep posting for you. And I’ll keep writing my newsletter for you.

I will limit my new client acquisition to 2 per month.

And when I feel that taking on new clients would decrease the level of service to existing clients, I’ll look for a business partner.

If you’re in your 40s, withdrawing from your retirement accounts (and paying taxes + penalties) could potentially be a smart move.

To be clear, this is obviously something to avoid if you can.

But in some instances, traditional financial advice might keep you from living a happier and more fulfilling life.

Consider John’s situation.

He works 50-60 hours a week.
He’s stressed and tired.
And rarely home for dinner.
He dreams about quitting.
But he can’t imagine how.

With some planning, John could take a 50% pay cut. And downshift to a simpler job, while keeping his lifestyle intact.

𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞: $125k
𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐥: ~$36k (just 3.6% of his IRA)

A small annual withdrawal covers the gap, while his retirement portfolio keeps compounding.

And his home value will keep compounding, too. His plan projections show nearly a $1M inflow if he sells at retirement.

Which can then be invested alongside his retirement portfolio.

Assuming he retires at 65

With an asset allocation of:
80% stocks
20% cash & cash equivalents

His plan shows:
90% probability of success
$13M median value at age 90

Would he pay more to the IRS? Sure.
Would he give up some upside? Of course.

But maybe that’s the price of peace.
Maybe it’s better to pay a fee for freedom.

Instead of continuing to pay
with your time, health, and happiness.

The proposed 80/20 mix allows for about five years of expected withdrawals to be protected from stock market risk. This allocation must be strategically managed, over time, to reduce “sequence of returns” risk.
