As a Venue Associate at Headquarters during the Sundance Film Festival, my role centered on ensuring a seamless experience for patrons, filmmakers, talent, and institute staff. Present and attentive throughout the event, my responsibilities included maintaining clear signage, managing information flow, and upholding the venue's aesthetic standards. I facilitated communication by radioing appropriate staff for urgent and routine needs, directing individuals to the correct departments as required. I ensured the venue maintained its brand-appropriate ambiance and posture at all times, contributing to a professional and welcoming environment. Upon completion of the festival, I assisted the systematic breakdown of the venue, ensuring meticulous attention to detail in its closure. As a Venue Associate, I played a crucial role in enhancing the overall experience and operational success of the Sundance Film Festival headquarters.

As the Theater Manager at the Sundance Film Festival, my role revolves around managing and ensuring smooth screening operations while focusing on the big picture to ensure a seamless experience for all attendees. I serve as the primary liaison, introducing directors, actors, filmmakers, and other talent during pre-screening discussions and facilitating engaging post-screening Q&A sessions. My role involves the critical function of ensuring films start on time and promptly addressing any screening-related issues that may arise. Together with my Associate Theater Manager, I oversee a dedicated team of volunteers, ensuring they are well-directed and providing excellent customer service throughout the festival. An asthete to my core, I am committed to maintaining a brand-appropriate ambiance in the theaters, ensuring each screening venue reflects the prestigious nature of the Sundance Film Festival. As Theater Manager, my goal is to uphold the festival's reputation for outstanding cinematic experiences while ensuring both filmmakers and audiences alike have memorable and enjoyable interactions.

I motivate people to refine their analytical and creative voices through writing, film, and digital storytelling. 

In addition to my academic work, I bring 20+ years of industry experience. As a Theater Manager at the Sundance Film Festival, I developed exceptional skills in delivering brand-appropriate ambiance and creating seamless, top-tier guest experiences while celebrating the art and power of storytelling. My on-set experience in film and television, coupled with my work as an actor, gives me real-world insights into the creative process and collaborative media production. 

With a Doctorate in Rhetoric & Composition, I take an interdisciplinary approach to problem-solving and ideation, blending education, creativity, and strategic thinking. I’m eager to connect with opportunities that align with my passion for innovation and excellence.

I’m Dr. Bonnie Lenore Kyburz, a formerly tenured College Writing Program Adminstrator and 20+ year volunteer Theater Manager, QA, and Venue Associate for the #SundanceFilmFestival. After relocating to be with family, I'm now a Writing Instructor at Northern Illinois University, seeking a role that values my talents in a broader capacity, both within and beyond classrooms.

As a professor, I help students discover their brilliance and creativity, strengthen their writing and communication skills, revise with confidence, and develop their own voices in academic and other spaces. As a program leader and ongoing mentor, I help other teachers and professionals discover their strengths and help them see pathways for aligning meaningfully with shared goals. 

In addition to my teaching career, I have spent over 20 years as a Theater Manager for the Sundance Film Festival, where I led large volunteer teams and coordinated logistics to ensure great screenings in a fast-paced environment. HEAVEN for this #filmperson! This experience, combined with my classroom work, inspires creative, empathic #leadership, #projectmanagment, and impactful #storytelling skills across scenes, modes, and media 🎥🎙️🎧☕️🌟

While I continue in academia, I am also exploring alternative opportunities to leverage my strengths in #film, #writing and #creative #problemsolving. I hope to find a role where the compensation reflects the quality, depth, and breadth of my skill sets and my value-adding presence.
