I’m in #sales, but for the next 30 days, I’m doing something that has nothing to do with quota.

🌙 Today is the first day of Ramadan.

I usually post about B2B sales tactics here, but I wanted to pause and share a bit about who I am behind the deal desk.

For the next month, I’ll be fasting from dawn to sunset—no food, no water.

It’s a challenge, but it brings a clarity and focus that is hard to describe.

Many people have a specific image of what "Muslim" looks like or what this month is about. Here are 5 facts that might surprise you:

1. Fasting teaches "Invisible Integrity." Every other act of worship has an outward sign, like you can see someone praying or giving charity. But fasting? You cannot tell if I am fasting or not. I could easily sneak a sip of water in an empty room, and no human would know. It is the ultimate exercise in integrity and holding yourself to a standard simply because you know it's the right thing to do. 

2. We honor the same heroes. Islam deeply honors Prophets Jesus, Moses, and Abraham. We view them as beloved prophets and part of our spiritual lineage. If you read the Quran, you will see their names mentioned with immense respect.

3. It’s not just a "Middle East" thing. The top 5 Muslim countries by population are actually Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Nigeria. It is a truly global community that spans every culture.

4. It is the "Month of the Quran." We don't just fast from food; we feast on scripture. This is the month the Quran was revealed, so we dedicate ourselves to reciting and connecting with it. It’s a time to disconnect from the noise and reconnect with our purpose.

5. It’s about charity (Zakat). Ramadan isn't just about what we don't consume; it's about what we give. Generosity spikes during this month, reminding us that our wealth is a tool to help others, not just a scoreboard.

215% of Quota in Q4. Here are 5 non-traditional things I did to close the gap.

B2B SaaS is getting harder, but I found that transparency converts better than persuasion.

I pride myself in being an unorthodox seller that will unexpectedly delight my buyers and prospects by flipping #sales on its head.

Here is the exact breakdown of my Q4 strategy:

❌ The Old Way: Dodge questions about competitors.
✅ My Way: Discussed competitors in the first 10 minutes to frame the decision criteria myself.

❌ The Old Way: “Happy ears” / Hoping the champion sells for me.
✅ My Way: Enforced multi-threading. I made sure my buyer committed to bringing in key stakeholders, and I aligned my execs with theirs immediately. No multi-thread meant no deal. I wouldn't budge without it.

❌ The Old Way: Waiting for the "right time" to ask for the close.
✅ My Way: Asked for the commitment to close by year-end upfront. Radical alignment on timeline without playing games.

❌ The Old Way: Formal emails and long threads.
✅ My Way: Texting basis with everyone and using a digital sales room to avoid loose threads.

The Kicker:
I also listed the top 3 reasons my product wouldn't work for them. It sounds risky, but it qualified deals faster than any BANT framework ever could.

Q4 was my best quarter, but looking back, my calls sounded more like disqualification than selling.

Which of these scares you the most?

Our country just went to war without Congressional approval and folks are posting selfies and pics of dogs while promoting their courses. Like LinkedIn is so cringe sometimes I can't even believe it.

President Trump has been bought by hardcore, pro-Israeli donors/neocons and dragged us into a war many security and military officials opposed, including General Dan Caine, the Joint Chiefs of Staff chair.

“We don’t have a discretely focused objective..."

Keep in mind top Jewish donors and organizations have contributed at least $350 million to $450 million to Trump over the last few years alone...

President Trump has repeatedly said that the previous strikes in June 2025 (Operation Midnight Hammer) "completely and totally obliterated" Iran's nuclear enrichment facilities.

They literally said the Iranian nuclear program was "destroyed, in the dirt" and would "take years to recover".

With shifting U.S. public opinion and a "collapse of support" for Israel on the Democratic side, Israeli leaders have viewed the current Trump administration as their final reliable window for a massive, joint military attack.

And now they got it.

Keep in mind companies like Lockheed Martin (LMT), RTX, and Northrop Grumman (NOC) are expected to see increased revenue from long-term maintenance and munitions replenishment because of this war.

What's crazy is Operation Epic Fury lacks a coherent U.S. "end game" beyond Israeli security interests.

Both geopolitical analysts and members of the U.S. defense establishment have been critical of this attack for this reason.

While Israel has long sought the "decapitation" of Iranian leadership to remove an existential threat, the U.S. will now grapple with the fallout of a mission that appears to have achieved a primary Israeli goal without a clear plan for what comes next.

Like at some point when will folks wake up!

No more forever wars!!!

"I'd be more than happy to..." is the deadliest phrase in #sales. It just makes you an unpaid consultant.

The absolute worst thing in our profession isn't losing a deal.

It’s doing a massive amount of free work, just to finish in second place.

Over +15 years selling, I’ve adopted a very strict mantra for managing my time and resources in a deal.

It comes down to two distinct modes of operating:

Mode 1: I am the Vendor of Choice.

If the buyer confirms we are the preferred solution, I become an open book. You have my full, undivided attention. Whatever you need to get this across the finish line like custom documentation, technical deep dives, executive alignment etc, I will make it happen.

Mode 2: I am NOT the Vendor of Choice.

If we are still just "one of the options," I treat every single request with major skepticism. I'm not overly committing to anything just yet. I'm more interested in the hesitation and what's really going on behind the scenes in between calls.

Eager, inexperienced reps fall into a dangerous trap here.

They believe that bending over backwards like running free pilots, filling out endless security docs, scheduling multi-threaded calls and all that is how you become the vendor of choice.

It isn't.

It’s how you become free consulting for a buyer who is actually going to sign with your competitor.

There is a strange psychological truth in sales: adding a little friction actually yields better results.

In The JOLT Effect, Matt Dixon analyzed top-performing reps and found exactly this.

Elite sellers don't just blindly facilitate a buyer's endless exploration.

They limit the scope.

They are crystal clear about what happens next, and they ensure the buyer is truly bought in before moving forward.

Before you commit massive amounts of time and company resources, you have to look the buyer in the eye and ask the hard question:

"Are we the vendor of choice?"

If the answer is yes, open the floodgates.

If the answer is no, stop doing busywork.

Address their actual concerns, figure out the gap between you and #1, and fight that battle first.

Don't ignore the danger and stop working for free.

It was never my intention to play into disgusting, racist tropes, particularly at a time of rising Antisemitism and Islamophobia. Because of that, I deleted my prior post. 

Words matter, even when, but especially when, talking about politics and special interests. 

My post was never intended as an affront of religion or ethnicity. My voice has been and remains unrelentingly supportive of peace, and critical of war or loss of any life.

Stop trying to make your buyers "like" you.

If you want a friend, get a dog. If you want a signed contract, get some authority.

I hit 215% of my number not because I'm "nice," but because I drive the bus...

Too many sellers lose control of the deal because they are terrified of friction.

They answer every command, hide pricing, and dodge tough questions.

The result? They get treated like a vendor.

Here is the exact playbook I use to maintain authority and trust:


1. 🐘 I name the "Elephant" immediately.

I talk about competitors openly. I name my top 2 competitors on the first call. It instantly disarms them and shows I know the landscape better than they do.


2. ☠️ I kill the "Guessing Game" on price.

I share pricing early. I don’t want them doing mental gymnastics about cost while I’m trying to show value.


3. 📣 I voice my doubts.

If I hear a red flag, I don't ignore it. I say: "Based on what you just said, my top concerns for you are..."

This proves I care more about their success than my commission.


4. ⛔ I outline the "Failure Mode."

I list the top 3 reasons why AI coaching launches fail (or why people don't buy). By defining the risks upfront, I position myself as the expert guide who can help them avoid the pitfalls.


5. ⚡ I use the JOLT Effect (specifically O and L).
Indecision is the enemy, so I don't let them drown in data.

(O) Offer a Recommendation: I avoid "analysis paralysis." I don't give a menu; I give a specific, firm recommendation.

(L) Limit the Exploration: I manage the flow. I tell them when we have enough data to make a decision, preventing information overload.


Stop asking for permission to sell.

Start giving them the direction they need to buy.

You prepped 20 questions for your discovery call. The buyer derailed your entire plan in 60 seconds...

A great discovery call is the ultimate test of situational awareness.

And for many sellers, it's where most deals die before they ever really got going.

In the span of 30 minutes, your brain is desperately trying to navigate a maze of split-second decisions:

↳ Should I ask another question, or let them ask me one?

↳ Should I pull the thread on what they just said, or move on?

↳ Did they expect to see a demo today?

↳ Are they looking at competitors right now? Which ones?

↳ Why are they actually looking to change the status quo today?

There are a hundred different paths the conversation can take.

Unfortunately, most of them lead to unproductive dead ends.

This level of ambiguity completely paralyzes newer and less experienced reps.

They hate the uncertainty of a fluid conversation.

When a buyer takes a sudden left turn like asking about a complex implementation detail, bringing up an unexpected competitor, or venting about a totally different problem it's easy to panic.

They feel the conversation leaving their "safe zone."

So, instead of exploring the new information, they awkwardly try to force the buyer back onto their rigid, predefined checklist.

Elite sellers operate completely differently.

They are fluid.

They don't fight the chaos; they embrace the ambiguity.

They know a discovery call isn't a deposition where you just read down a list of questions.

It’s a highly dynamic exploration.

If a buyer goes off-script, an elite rep doesn't drag them back.

They trust their situational awareness to follow the new thread, uncover the real pain, and organically steer the conversation toward a productive next step.

They way to unlock this nirvana is understanding the objectives of the call.

Your primary goal as a seller should be (dis)qualification.

Often the second should be clear next steps and commitment from the buyer's end.

And the third should be understanding the compelling event or problem causing the desire for change.

Stop trying to control every single second of the call.

The best discovery happens the moment you are confident enough to throw out the script and actually listen to where the buyer is trying to take you.

You think you are multithreading the account. Your buyer thinks you are a political risk.

Most reps see a stat like this and immediately start asking aggressive, self-serving questions like, "Who is the economic buyer?" or "Can you introduce me to the CFO?"

It’s a horrible approach.

And it almost always fails.

Why? Because before you can help a buyer navigate their internal dysfunction, you have to earn the right to see it.

Internal alignment isn't a checklist you force on a prospect.

For a buyer to actually let you help them deal with internal politics, they have to be willing to do four things first:

💣 Map the minefield: They have to tell you exactly who needs to be involved, and more importantly, what each person's actual opinion is about making a change.

👀 Expose the mess: They need to divulge the reality of their internal processes, what happens in behind-closed-doors meetings, and the specific pushback they are facing.

💯 Trust your motives: They have to believe you are an expert who can genuinely help them solve a business problem, not just another rep hawking an overpriced solution to hit quota.

💀 Risk their reputation: They have to feel comfortable enough to stick their neck out, make a stir, and champion your product to their leadership team.

If you show up acting like a typical, commission-driven vendor, your buyer is going to keep their cards hidden.

Nobody is going to expose their internal politics and risk their own reputation for a seller who hasn't shown enough credibility.

There’s a distinct mental shift that happens around 5:00 PM on a Friday.

For my colleagues without children, it’s often a shift into "neutral." Time to decompress, recharge, and catch up on sleep...

For those of us with young kids, that shift is the sound of a starting pistol.

I have three kids ages 8, 6, and 5.

My weekend isn't a break from work.

It's just clocking into a different, louder, stickier job site.

Before kids, I didn't realize that the weekend isn't the absence of responsibility.

It's just a new set of logistics.

As soon as the laptop closes today, I’m switching from #sales professional work to domestic chaos management.

The 48-hour itinerary is relentless:

⚽️ Early morning sports practices (where it is always inexplicably freezing).
🎂 The birthday party circuit (managing the sugar crash inbound).
🛒 Grocery shopping with three highly opinionated "assistants."

Plus homework wrangling, play date negotiations, and family visits.

Why talk about this on LinkedIn?

Because it’s important to remember that many of the high-performing professionals you work with arrive on Monday morning more exhausted than when they left on Friday.

They haven’t been resting.

They’ve been parenting.

They've been "on" every single waking second, usually serving as chauffeur, referee, chef, and emotional support human simultaneously.

So, this is a shout-out to the moms and dads gearing up for the weekend shift.

We are in the thick of it right now.

The days are long, the years are short, and the caffeine feels necessary.

Keep toughing it out.

You're doing the most important work there is, even if it doesn't come with a weekend break.

😂 Can you spot all 3 kids?

You think ignoring competitors protects you. It actually makes you look terrified...

Want to build instant credibility with a buyer?

Introduce them to your competitors.

Most sellers think this is absolute insanity.

They’d rather bury their heads in the sand and pretend they are the only viable vendor on the planet.

But let's be realistic... your buyer is exactly one search away from typing “[Your Company Name] alternatives” into Google or ChatGPT.

Any legitimate, serious buyer is going to shop around.

If you ignore that fact, you aren't protecting your deal, you're just losing control of the narrative.

That's the key difference between average and elite sellers.

Elite sellers maintain control and get access to power, average sellers get tossed around and ghosted far too often.

When you proactively bring up the competition and educate the buyer on the market as a whole, three things happen:

1. You disarm them.

Hiding the competition makes you look insecure. Openly acknowledging them makes you look bulletproof. It builds immediate credibility.

2. You control the framing.

You get to explain why different solutions exist, where your competitors actually shine, and where they fall flat all before the competitor gets to do it to you.

3. You prove your expertise.

You stop sounding like a quota-carrying rep trying to force a square peg into a round hole, and start sounding like a trusted industry advisor who actually understands the landscape. This especially true when you're genuine in your breakdown of the competitive landscape and understand the positioning of the market.

Stop playing pretend.

Your buyers aren't stupid.

They know you have competitors.

The only question is whether you want them to learn about the market from a search engine, or from you.

🩺 Most sellers want to play doctor.

They hear a single symptom, cut the patient off, and immediately start writing a prescription.

It’s a horrible mindset for #sales.

There is a massive psychological advantage to letting your prospect "marinate" on the problem.

You have to give them the silent space to expand on:

↳ Why it’s such a massive headache
↳ Why no one internally has handled it yet
↳ Why it’s finally getting completely out of hand

Too often, a seller will interrupt a buyer to share something they think is "exciting and relevant." In reality, the absolute best move was to just shut up and listen.

When sellers jump the gun, it usually boils down to two reasons:

1. 🎓 They want to sound smart.

They falsely believe that talking about the product demonstrates expertise. When the pressure is on, people default to what they know best, so they pitch.

2. 😱 They fear the ambiguity.

A buyer starts venting and dumps multiple issues on the table at once. Every issue is a potential thread to pull. Facing this complex web, the seller doesn't know how to steer the conversation, so they jump in to regain control of the script.

Elite sellers operate differently.

They know exactly when to lean back and let the buyer rant.

They don't fear the ambiguity of the conversation, and they don't mind if the buyer's logic is a little messy at first.

Why?

Because if you stay quiet long enough, a qualified prospect will do the hardest part of your job for you: they will sell themselves on the need for change.
