BABEL is a research unit established in the Department of Economics and Management at the University of Florence, Italy. The founders of BABEL aim to promote transdisciplinary skills which enhance research projects as well as lifelong and post-graduate training courses on DLTs, blockchains, smart contracts, and artificial intelligence. The goal is to support regulators in building a tailored regulatory scheme to favour both business and social applications of these new technologies and for helping users with the still open legal issues.

"Interlinking TIPS with other fast payment systems contributes to the Eurosystem’s retail payments strategy and the G20 roadmap for faster, cheaper and more transparent and inclusive cross-border payments, while also supporting the international role of the euro. The long-term ambition is therefore to extend this work to additional currency corridors."
In 2021, according to official Balance of Payments data, remittances from the EU States amounted to $123 billion. Estimates from the Bilateral Remittances Matrix are significantly higher, at $161 billion because many European countries don't report personal transfers.

Tokenizzazione: regole, progetti e prospettive

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).
1️⃣ The Singapore Dollar Testnet is an operational shared ledger infrastructure that enables financial institutions (FIs) to test the settlement of tokenised financial assets using Singapore Dollar (SGD) wholesale Central Bank Digital Currency. The trial, involving DBS Bank, OCBC, and UOB, featured the first live issuance of SGD wholesale CBDC, with transactions recorded in the banks' official books and regulatory filings.
2️⃣ The platform offers the following services: 
- a Common Settlement Asset, the the SGD wholesale CBDC  
- programmable money, ensuring real-time execution of contractual terms  based on predefined conditions. 
- multi-asset support, atomic settlement of PvP (payment versus payment) and DvP (delivery versus payment).
3️⃣ Future plans (2026) are about the issuance of tokenised National Debt to Primary Dealers, to be settled SGD wholesale CBDC.

"𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗴𝗲" 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆: 𝘵𝘰 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘵 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘶𝘴 𝘌𝘶𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘴, 𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘸.
▶️ According to Neil Shearing, world economy has not de-globalised, it had started to splinter. He suggests global trade won't decrease 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘣𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘰, but the economy will split into a US-centered bloc and a China-centered one. 
▶️ The only point the two blocks do agree is about seeing each other as an existential challenge. Inter-block trade is going to decrease, as States will be more or less forced to trade only within their own block.
▶️ Even after the world economy became a negative-sum game, the US is still poised to get the best out of that. After all, most US-managed assets (trade routes, markets and currency) are still irreplaceable, and the US bloc still controls 50% of the world GDP, against China’s 32% (values corrected to account for different purchasing power).
▶️ China’s economic growth has already slowed down and is going to reach as low as 2%. Moreover, the most profitable countries where the Chinese may invest their current account surplus are in the US block.
▶️ However, Shearing says, the US is damaging its most valuable assets: "Donald Trump’s behaviour towards Brazil, Canada, India and Ukraine, to name just four, has destroyed his country’s reputation for trustworthiness."
▶️ Unaligned countries stuck in the middle will have a hard time balancing between the two blocks. And the whole world will suffer a little more than before!

▶️Some time ago, Mr. Nadella announced he wanted to focus on "highest-ambition technical work" and #JudsonAlthoff (the head of Microsoft Commercial Buisiness) was to assume the role of "enterprise communicator".

▶️ Some time later, in an post on X, Mr. Nadella rejected the idea that AI were a zero-sum game. The AI industry should "move beyond zero-sum thinking and the winner-take-all hype and focus instead on building broad capabilities".

1️⃣ U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Chairman John Boozman (R-AR) and Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) released a discussion draft of legislation that would provide new authority to the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission to regulate digital commodities.

2️⃣  This bipartisan proposal expands upon the CLARITY Act approved by the House of Representatives in July, but will need to be re-discussed in the House. Moreover, the proposal deals only with the "commodity branch" of digital assets (which are legislated by the Agr. Commission). The "security branch" still needs to be discussed in the United States Senate Committee on Finance .
3️⃣ While only incorrigible optimists may expect any legislation to be approved before next year, the definitions put forward in the proposal are quite interesting. Please have a look at my comments below.
