Today, I want to shout out some amazing folks from my homeland. 

Why? Because I can. 

And honestly, Colombia is the perfect spot to build a company that truly thrives.

The stats back it up: Colombia's startup ecosystem is on fire with over 5,000 active startups, a ranking as Latin America's top innovation hub by StartupBlink, and projections for a whopping 25% jump in venture funding by the end of 2025 

(thanks to reports from Endeavor and local accelerators)

It's no wonder we're seeing so much magic happening here.

Here’s a quick list of my favorite founders making waves:

But here’s why I’m sharing this with you, just in case you didn’t know:

💫 Just Brazil sent over 200+ startups to the event! 

💫 There was also a Colombian delegation and a Mexican one. 

Once again, I’m so proud of Latin America. We need to show the world that our tech ecosystem is thriving. 🌎

My guys from Spendbase met in person with some of the LATAM representatives and shared our core value: saving on SaaS and cloud helps you grow faster.

Remember I promised to mash up EU and LATAM ecosystem data into one killer post? 

Hehe, here we go 😎 Keeping it real with the numbers that matter for us builders and hustlers.

Starting with LATAM: 

👉 São Paulo is still the undisputed boss of the region, cramming in a ton of Deep Tech action from Brazil and sitting pretty at #37 globally. 
👉 In 2025 alone, 142 startups pulled in $2.7 billion in funding, and that's steady cash flowing where it counts. 
👉 The "VC Winter" is officially toast; the survivors are tough as nails, and investors are all about sustainable, profitable plays now. Love that vibe!

My fave startups crushing it here: Plata Card, Lastro, Indicium Tech, wehandle, Kamino.

Over to Europe: 

👉 Home to a whopping 58,000 startups, with the big three: London, Paris, and Berlin, holding down about 13,500 of 'em (that's 23% of the total). 
👉 London leads the pack at over 8,600, Paris brings nearly 2,800, and Berlin chimes in with more than 2,000. 
👉 Oh, and don't sleep on those 134 unicorns roaming around, Europe's got that mature muscle.

Shoutout to some gems I'm watching: Overstory, Infracost, Klearcom, Chaos, Dreamdata.

I'm pretty sure LATAM is gonna explode even more, closing the gap and maybe even outpacing parts of Europe in raw startup energy by 2030. 

With that resilience and fresh capital, it's primed for some serious global takeovers!

Despite global market fluctuations, 2025 has seen consistent investor activity, with 142 startups securing funding totaling $2.7 billion in the region as of November.

👉 Another one:

Most of the unicorns come from Brazil, but the king? Colombia😎 Rappi, valued at over $5B, keeps making headlines and rumors of going public.

👉 And the third:

The region has about 38 private unicorns.

Not bad at all, right? Let’s be honest, we’re ready to rock the world of tech!

Today, I want to share a few startups I believe have what it takes to become unicorns. I’m cheering for:

🔥 Fintech (Digital Banking, Payments, & Crypto): Straight-up dominating with about 30% of all funding. Brazil and Mexico pulled in $4B last year, and we're talking $6B projected for 2025. Shoutout to game-changers like Nubank and Redelcom | Mercado Pago!

🔥 E-commerce & RetailTech: Grabbing 25% of the action, with a post-pandemic boom pushing the market past $50B by '25. Think cross-border hustles and AI making shopping personal: Rappi out of Colombia and Magazine Luiza in Brazil are killing it.

🔥 Edtech (Online Learning & Skill Development): Shooting up 15-20% with over $3B in funding. It's all about making education reachable in underserved spots, with AI tutors and hybrid vibes on the horizon. Big love for Descomplica (Brazil) and Crehana (Mexico/Peru).

From what I've seen as Spendbase's Country Manager, hidden costs sneak up on about 70% of users, and they can inflate your AWS bill by 30-50% if you're not on top of it. 

Have you ever looked at your AWS bill and wondered, "Okay, seriously, where'd that random $10K come from?"

Let me share a few eye-openers my customers learned the hard way:

👉 It's cheap to pull stuff into AWS, but getting it out? Oof, up to $0.09 per GB after the free tier. Pro move: Check your patterns; it can drop costs 80%.

👉 FinOps folks say 35% of cloud bills are just idle waste. Like paying for a car you never drive. Hop into Cost Explorer to tag and auto-stop 'em; it's a game-changer.

👉 You provision storage, but if it's sitting half-empty, you're still billed full ($0.10/GB/month). One team I chatted with was overprovisioned by 50%, trimming it freed up $15K without losing a thing.
