Europe is entering the phase where flexibility will be recognized as a core system asset - not just an add-on.
As the grids shift from centralized, dispatchable supply to distributed + intermittent resources, system reliability will depend increasingly on how well local assets are orchestrated.
Grid '2.0' will be defined by visibility, intelligence and flexible operations at LV level.
The Green Deal requires a Grid Deal - and a clear framework that treats flexibility as infrastructure.

ENTSO-E’s new paper on flexibility from RES highlights a structural point: Europe cannot reach high RES penetration without making renewable assets fully observable, controllable and responsive to price signals.

Flexibility at scale will not come from storage alone - it needs RES themselves to behave as flexible assets, especially during high-generation/low-load hours when system imbalances are visible already.

Getting there means i) standardised control interfaces, ii) granular metering, iii) dynamic tariffs and iv) support schemes that reward system-aligned behaviour rather than inelastic feed-in

A coordinated approach to flexibility is central to a resilient & efficient EU power system - and is a core for building the #EnergyUnion.

Ambitions around electrification, #flexibility and #congestion management are accelerating, but the factual real-time #visibility at LV level still limits what DSOs can operate in practice.

And just a day later, the Commission’s Grids Package reinforces the same point: LV intelligence is no longer an isolated case - but part of foundational infrastructure for the Energy Union.
