❶ At the peak: LVMH ($321.6B) and Hermès ($240.7B). Together, these two command more than the next several tiers combined, showing how tightly 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 is at the top of the industry.

❷ The 2nd tier is defined by fast fashion and accessible luxury: 𝘔𝘢𝘴𝘴-𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘵 players highlight how profitable scale & volume-driven models have become.

❸ In the third-tier ($30B–$100B), athletic & fast-fashion leaders dominate. 𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴 are achieving valuations that increasingly mirror those of century-old luxury maisons and watchmakers.

❹ The fourth-tier ($10B–$30B) bracket is the most diverse. Heritage luxury (Prada, Kering), global fast fashion (H&M, Primark), athletic wear (Asics, On), and off-price retail (Burlington, Dick’s Sporting Goods) all compete for share of wallet.

❺ ❻ At the base of the pyramid, the sheer 𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴 in these layers underlines how difficult it is to scale into the upper echelons of fashion.

A fascinating new study just came out...

𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃 𝐩𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 👀 

The data strongly reinforces the idea that 𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘭𝘺 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 is not necessary - and may even be counterproductive for long-term success. 

Personal anecdotes that back up the data:

❶ All my friends who now play professionally played multiple sports growing up (and 2+ in high school). 

❷ Kids I knew that only played one sport had skills...but not enough athleticism (and often not enough toughness as well).

❸ Late bloomers seemed to "peak" at the right time...as they trained harder and also had more fun (less burnout also).

Is that even if you lose a lot (and for a very long time), the owners still continue to get wealthier and wealthier based on appreciation...making there be no real incentive for them to win games.
