Here’s exactly how I’d do it —

🔹 Step 1: Start from SCRATCH

Even if you’re from a non-CS background — it’s possible. I’ve helped students go from zero coding knowledge to getting roles at top-tier tech companies.

Start with:
 - One simple language (C++, Java, or Python)
 - Beginner-friendly YouTube content like Apna College
 - And most importantly — solve 70+ problems in that language. Watching alone doesn’t help!

🔹 Step 2: DSA - Phase I

DSA forms 90% of SDE interviews.
Start with the basics:
Time Complexity → Sorting → Binary Search → Arrays → Linked List → Stack → Queue
Follow Striver’s A-Z DSA Sheet.
Push every problem to GitHub — helps with revision later.

🔹 Step 3: DSA - Master It

Once basics are covered, level up:
Recursion & Backtracking → Greedy → Sliding Window & Two Pointers → Trees & Graphs → Dynamic Programming → Tries → Heaps → Union-Find

Start participating in weekly LeetCode contests — they build speed, pattern recognition & pressure-handling.

🔹 Step 4: Build Your Resume

Don’t wait till the end. While doing DSA:
 - Create 2–3 strong & relevant projects
 - Participate in Hackathons
 - Contribute to Open Source
These make your resume stand out — with real impact.

🔹 Step 5: Build a Revision Habit

Pick one fixed day every week just to revise.
Re-attempt solved problems randomly.
Use your GitHub repo like your own cheat sheet.

🔹 Step 6: Start Your Job Hunt

Once:
✅ You’ve done 70% of your prep
✅ Have 2–3 good projects
✅ Polished your resume (with keywords + quantifiable impact)

→ Start applying
→ Give 3–4 Mock Interviews to build confidence & reduce panic

This approach helped me land interview calls from 3+ FAANGs and has worked for so many students I’ve mentored.

I cracked PayPal  & Myntra  without “finishing” Arrays, Strings, Trees or DP.

I cracked them by changing how I looked at DSA.

Pattern view instead of topic view

In Arrays / Strings, I didn’t do everything.
I mastered patterns:
	• Two Pointers → ~15 problems
	• Sliding Window → ~20 problems
	• Prefix / Suffix → ~10 problems

	• DFS paths → ~10 problems
	• Tree views & boundaries → ~8 problems

In DP:
	• Knapsack → ~10 problems
	• Subsequences (LIS / LCS) → ~10 problems
	• Grid / path-based DP → ~10 problems

That’s it.

This approach actually survives real interviews.

Most people struggle with DSA not because their logic is weak, but because their approach is completely wrong.

They try to “complete topics”.
Interviews test pattern recognition.

If you want to solve problems faster and with better accuracy, you must start thinking in patterns.

That’s exactly why I created my own DSA Pattern Sheet — and it completely changed the way I prepare and teach.

And most candidates fail because of these 3 common mistakes:

🔴 Mistake #1: Rushing to code
I used to start writing code immediately after reading the question.
What worked: Pausing to plan, explaining my logic clearly, and dry-running before coding.

🔴 Mistake #2: Skipping hard topics
Avoided Graphs, DP, and Tries for too long.
What worked: Breaking them down into patterns and practicing them regularly.

🔴 Mistake #3: No debugging practice
In interviews, I got stuck because I never practiced debugging live.
What worked: Thinking out loud, dry-running, and being calm under pressure.

Solving DSA questions is easy. Explaining them in interviews is where most people fail.

2026, On-site interviews are back. 
And they don’t forgive weak patterns.

I’ve learned this the hard way —
It’s not about solving more questions.
It’s about solving the right ones under pressure.

So I stopped random practice and started doing DSA self-audits - the kind interviews at Amazon, Google, Uber actually demand.

My rule:
Pick any 2 questions.
45 minutes.
No hints. No retries.

If I can’t reach a clean, optimized solution —
that pattern needs work. Simple.

The first patterns I always test myself on:

1️⃣ Arrays & Hashing
Two Sum, Product Except Self, Majority Element…
If this isn’t instinctive, interviews become exhausting.

2️⃣ Two Pointers
3Sum, Container With Most Water, Palindrome checks
Clean thinking > brute force.

3️⃣ Sliding Window
Longest Substring, Min Window, Subarray Sum
This pattern separates practice from mastery.

4️⃣ Binary Search
Rotated arrays, peaks, monotonic spaces
If you only associate BS with “sorted array”, you’re missing gold.

5️⃣ Matrix / Grids
Islands, Rotting Oranges, Sudoku
Your BFS/DFS clarity shows instantly here.

6️⃣ Intervals
Meetings, stocks, temperatures
Overlaps + ordering = silent interview killers.

There are 7 more patterns I follow religiously (LL, Stack, DP, Graphs…), but these 6 alone expose gaps brutally fast.

No hype. No shortcuts.
Just the kind of prep that actually survives an on-site whiteboard.
