Why is JPMorgan raising the alarm on yield-bearing Stablecoins? Here’s the other side of the story.

JPMorgan has warned that yield-bearing stablecoins could create a “Parallel banking system” if they operate without proper regulation.

That concern is valid as unregulated yield is risky.
But regulated yield is not the problem,  it’s the solution.

When stablecoins are:
·      Fully backed with verifiable reserves
·      Transparently audited
·      Properly regulated

Offering yield becomes a feature, not a threat.

Yield puts idle capital to work, expands access to modern financial tools, and signals a maturing digital economy. 

So why are traditional banks opposing this?

They currently control access, pricing, and returns and fintech + DeFi threaten that dominance.

We should create a level playing field. How do we design regulation that protects users and give new fintech and DeFi players a fair chance to compete?

That’s the debate worth having.

A ~$1000 Lesson on Trust.  A Story from Switzerland

With the World Economic Forum happening in Davos again this week, I was reminded of something that happened to me there last year while on the way to Davos. 

In Zurich, I had bought a 15-day First Class Swiss Rail Pass for CHF 723.
The next morning, just as I was about to leave for Bern, I couldn’t find the ticket.

I searched everywhere. 
Bags. Clothes. The room.
Then I walked back the same route I had taken the night before.
Nothing.

After almost 45 minutes, I finally went to the train station to ask if they could issue a replacement using the receipt. They said no as I didn't buy the digital one.

I was disappointed and ready to walk away and called my guardian angel Nik (Niklaus Samuel) Gugger and while he was speaking to the staff, one of the staff members asked for my name.

She went to a small shelf behind the counter, picked up an envelope, and handed it to me.

“Someone found this on the train last night and turned it in.”

𝗜𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁.

In that moment, everything changed: from stress to relief, from frustration to gratitude.

A complete stranger had chosen honesty over convenience.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗲?

This happened while I was in Switzerland for WEF in Davos, where world leaders talk about trust, systems, and the future of the global economy.
We often discuss Web3, decentralization, and building “trustless” systems through technology.
Here was a real-world example of trust working through human integrity.

No incentives.
No rewards.
No smart contracts.

Just someone doing the right thing.

𝗔 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆

Technology can help us build better systems.
But trust still begins with people.

As conversations about the future of finance, governance, and Web3 continue at Davos this year, I’m reminded that sometimes the strongest form of trust is a  choice and could strengthen the factor with the code in web3.

And sometimes, it’s as simple as returning a lost train ticket.
