Both divisions of this company was successfully acquired in double digit million dollar transactions (Walt Disney bought the China business and Norwest Venture Partners bought the India business).

I am a hands-on, serial entrepreneur whose focused approach is to fire up a great idea and partner with the best people to make it happen. My previous startup - Mobile2win, was acquired by The Walt Disney Company (China Company) and Norwest Venture Partners (India Company).

My current company Games2win (games2winmedia.com) has 500 million organic app downloads and is one of the largest casual mobile game publishers in the world. We LOVE to build Dress Up, Car Parking, Car Driving and Story Games. The company creates its IP and serves over 15 million unique players across the globe. Another business that I incubated a few years ago is koimoi.com! That business is now one of the most popular entertainment portals in India and entertains over 20 million unique visitors a day.

“Made FOR India” is BUNK

You can't make anything for a country (unless it's something very local, like Raj Kachori or Daal Baati) and hope to win in the Big Bad World.

This is WHY the Calcutta Stock Exchange (CSE) closed down (GPT)

- Over time, the equities trading market became concentrated in national-level exchanges (e.g., National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)), which eroded CSE’s prominence. 

- Regulatory burden: New norms demanded higher infrastructure, clearing mechanisms, and turnover thresholds, which CSE was unable to fulfil.

- Operational failure: CSE’s own platform was non-functional; reliance on a third-party contract (with NSE), which got terminated.

- Loss of viability: With low volumes, high compliance costs, and regulatory pressure, continuing as a stock exchange became unsustainable.

Read again. 

Do these points sound like something SPECIFIC to a Stock Exchange?

Nope! They apply to all Businesses.

If you build for the WORLD and begin to penetrate markets, you:

- Achieve Scale, Scale, Scale that allows you to:

Invest in your own tech / best tech

Have meaningful volumes that justify partnerships

You have the resources and heft to deal with regulators, etc, etc

This is WHY the "Made FOR India" propaganda is bunk.

India is just another Calcutta in the world Stage! Without Global coverage, nothing can be built to last.

We need to call it Built FROM India. 
Never Built FOR India.

EXCELLENT book by a World Class Investor - Pulak Prasad

Read the book to understand:

- How NOT to do deals :)

- The most important signals to look out for (For Pulak its ROCE).

- Debunking of myths 

"TAM is pointless because it does not tell us whether any profits will be made, and even if a business can be profitable, TAM is silent on who will make that moolah." :) 

- How NOT to have FOMO.

- The ability to accept that you can't understand everything.

Buy, learn, and make the right investment decisions.

Indian Credit cards for global subscriptions/payments - please help 

In the past year, we have kept encountering major problems with our HDFC / Indian Corporate / Personal cards used for subscription to online services

- Last week, my Grammarly account just couldn't get renewed using a slew of cards. Finally, I had to use a US credit card

- Today, all GPT+ accounts have been disconnected despite an active card being added

- FT, WSJ, and NYT are all activated via App Store wallets. Our credit cards never work.

I’m honestly FED UP with this over-regulation, micro-managing, constant meddling and needling of the powers that operate such mundane tasks. Doesn’t the RBI have better things to do?

Any workaround you know of?

A very, very, very frustrated top taxpayer!

"Don’t assume everyone knows what you know"

I connected deeply with this post by Avinash Kalia Ji 

Allow me to share my non-industry-specific "taken for granted list" that always fails.

- After completing a task, INFORM me that it has been done?

- Check work to be submitted AT LEAST once before sending. Twice would be nice, thrice would be super precise?

- Dont eat packed Mooli Paratha in a small plane or bus or car. It stinks…

- PLEASE hold the door for a person behind you. If possible, hold the door, let the people enter, check behind, enter, check again and release?

- A WC is a toilet, not a shower. DONT spill (anything) outside the pot. If you wanna have a bath, lemme know?

- Try NOT to overindulge on the weekend, Sunday, coz that will mean not coming to work on Monday. That screws up a lot of things!

- An APPRAISAL is NOT an "increment". 

- Try and understand HOW salaries get paid. They happen when you contribute Rs x to get Rs y. NOT understanding basic business means you will live in a fool's paradise.

- Coming to the office is HOLY. Things happen. Connections get made. The Walls teach you things. Coffee and chai sessions make learning happen. Staying WFH forever is what Cave Men and Women did. Even they walked out!

- BE Loyal to your CURRENT employer while on notice! Not your future employer?

UX TRAUMA - Introducing the Indigo HEAD Bruiser! 

I had the misfortune of flying Indigo a couple of days ago and was SHOCKED to notice this rigid acrylic rectangular board placed right in the centre of the first XL seat (Row 4)

I really wonder WHO had the stupidity to add such a dangerous, tricky fixture above a passenger's head.

I barely missed colliding with it a few times, and then used my head to ask, "WHY would this contraption even come up.

I realised - when Indigo introduced STRETCH seats (1-3), they had to 'separate' the Rich from the Poor in a visual manner too.

This 'head bruiser' acts like an opaque filter between the Front Guys and the Back guys.

I hope no one gets hurt, and Indigo gets sued.

Just another CLASSIC case of Industrial Design being abused for the extra dollar.

In the start of every flight, there is a 12 minute bhashan of the stupidest rules to follow in case of an accident. But what about INSIDE?

Takeaway:

Design is what people EXPERIENCE. It's not 'theoretical'. If you "RE" Design, do it with Users first. UX before UI!

Zoom Doom

The Zoom stock is down 86% since its peak in 2020. 

And that's when it INVENTED a brand new way of working, studying, meeting, everything—almost an entirely new way of living.

What's to learn?

- Rare events create rare habits. Even if you invent it, you may not OWN IT

- Selling a business is often better than running it. Some entrepreneurs create, some execute, some scale, some make it a machine.

If you're a gardener, don't try to be the florist.

- SIMPLIFY and CLARIFY. 

Most competitors that come later LATCH onto simplicity. Noticed how easy it is to start a Google meeting? (The WORST is a "Teams Call")

Example: It's been over five years since I started using Zoom like a pro. Yet even today, I can't understand how to start 'recurring meetings' without making 2-3 alterations. 

I challenge you to try!

When you walk into a party and happen to meet Bijli Lala

You find an empty spot on a sofa and sit with your sparkling water. (No drinks, OK?)

Next to you sits a podgy gentleman who has just begun speaking to a small group surrounding him

He says, "My Name is Bijli Lala. Not by birth but by profession!

I just invented Electricity that changes the way we do x, y, and z, and tells everyone about the power of his invention.

Then he says, "I'm going public next month, and you are all welcome to subscribe or buy after I list".

What will you do?

This fairy tale is to contextualise the fear and doom predictions of what will happen to all the AI Investments that the Magnificent Seven and their cousins are making, and how will ROI be measured, etc, etc

What happened when the Steam Engine, the Locomotive, the Telephone, and the Aeroplane were invented and then pushed into production by Companies? 

Some went bankrupt, some remain, some reinvented themselves, and many made a fortune.

In the case of AI, it's different.

Anyone and their mamaji can't make a ChatGPT or Gemini now. (Remember Deepseek?).

As an investor, I will subscribe to Bijli Lala only because of the power of his invention and what it may become. I will not sit with an Excel sheet and try to calculate IRR, coz I can't see the future of the future! 

Why? 

We don't know what the top 3-5 major AI winners will ultimately achieve. Government perpetuities that have no basis for ROI? Collaborative business outcomes? (Example Drug invention for Cancers with upsides?) Co-Sharing of HFT trading? 

Most financial analysts assume that their Cash flow will be typical. But with atypical spending and almost monopolistic business strengths, Cash flows will also be atypical. We don't see it yet. How? Via Products and Product suites, such as ChatGPT/SAAS, that could cost millions per year or per month in subscriptions. 

What we pay $25 per month for can become $2.5 million for Corporates with real use cases.

I would risk 10-15% of my Money on their destiny :)

My simple takeaway? 

In this case, think like a Capitalist, not like a moneylender.

Allocate and enjoy or skip a couple of holidays to make up the lost Money :)

Squirm as much as you can, GPT has crossed over to the Dark Side. 

Its intentions make Darth Vader look like a Labrador puppy.

What can be expected? 

The worst outcomes possible, anyway you think.

WHY?

The adult industry has a reputation for being one of the most innovative sectors globally, particularly in terms of technological advancements. 

Read these real-world examples & their outcomes:

Innovation: Efficient video streaming and compression techniques long before YouTube (2005).


💳 2. Online Payment and Subscription Models

Innovation: Secure credit card processing, recurring billing, and paywalls

Innovated subscription models and membership sites — precursors to modern platforms like Netflix, Spotify, and Patreon.

📸 3. Webcam and Live Streaming Technology

Innovation: Live cam services and real-time video broadcasting

The concept of live webcam streaming emerged in adult entertainment in the late 1990s.

Platforms perfected interactive streaming, chat, and tipping — which later inspired livestream platforms like Twitch and YouTube Live.

🌐 4. Online Advertising Networks and Affiliate Marketing

Innovation: Adult ad networks and affiliate monetisation

Adult sites were early adopters of banner ads, pop-up ads, and cross-site affiliate marketing in the 1990s, long before Google AdSense.

When was the last time you got “floored” by Apple Customer Service?

In all probability, you didn’t.

Apple is the coldest, most aloof Gorilla of Gorillas (GOG) I know.

While using its products — you can’t figure out how to sync your iPhone? Don’t know how to delete extra photos, etc., etc.?

Try calling Apple!

Who picks up the phone at Apple? No one. (You can’t even find a number to call!)

As a mobile games developer with 300+ million downloads on the App Store, how many times have we met Apple? Five.

With 300+ million downloads on the Play Store, how many times have we met Google? Five hundred.

So, what’s the point?

Personal intervention to pamper customers and “delight” them is bunk. That was a culture of the 1970s. We’re in 2025.

This is what real brand delight is, in my humble opinion:

Make the product or experience flawless — reduce complaints at the source.

Generate millions of help articles and discussions that tell users how to solve their issues. Tap GPT and get your answers.

Let your product do the talking — not fake hostess smiles.

Don’t have call lines with waiting times. Don’t manufacture hatred.

Serve a specific target group. The super-rich and super-poor complain all the time. The people in the middle live, let live, and stay positive.

Industries like hospitality and airlines have to do the personal delighting business. That’s why they suck at profits. (When was the last time you bought a hotel or airline stock?)

Make people enjoy DIY! Ever checked out at Uniqlo?

Check the image below. This is the most friendly store assistant I’ve met in my life. (Yesterday, my wife still doubted if this wizard had counted all the products correctly. We manually checked — it was perfect.)

Lesson: People (you, me, your father-in-law) are very difficult to please — so don’t even bother.

Instead, make products or services that take over the role. I can’t remember the last time anyone screamed at Spotify!
