I also spent four years on the adjunct faculty at West Point in the Department of Behavioral Sciences & Leadership. I was honored to have had the opportunity to teach and to learn from the USMA Corps of Cadets.

I currently serve on the boards of the Fuqua School of Business, the University of Arizona, and the Aunt Betty Foundation (a nonprofit that helps people with the burden of their student loan debt).

Billed as "The world's #1 business and leadership summit" -- Pendulum Summit is happening on Jan. 23rd in Dublin, and I will be speaking there along with Brené Brown, Marc Randolph, Rory Sutherland, and many more inspiring speakers who I know will blow everyone away with their incredible insights. 

Confession: I have been wanting to attend this conference for years because many leaders whom I greatly respect and admire have spoken at this event in the past (Sir Richard Branson, Woz, Sanna Marin), and now...not only do I get to attend, but I also get to take the stage and share my favorite lessons about how to lead and succeed in unpredictable environments. 

Warning: some of my advice will sound quite unconventional -- and maybe even a bit "out there" -- but trust me, it works.

The realization: Success might feel universal, but the path is bespoke. Difference is what makes us unique. If we all looked the same, who would need a mirror? Our breakthroughs came from what made us different—our USP, not similarities.

🔸Alison Levine: “If you have clarity in intent, you don’t need clarity in the environment.”
 The realization: Have you ever walked or travelled while it’s raining? We all wanted to reach our destination asap. The goal was clear, and because of that, the obstacles along the way didn’t stop us. 

🔸Marc Randolph: “Nobody knows anything—so start anyway.” 
The realization: If we think about all the inventions humans have made, what if they didn’t take that first step because they didn’t know enough? Nothing would exist the way it does today. 

🔸Amy Morin: “You can’t grow if you’re clinging to what’s comfortable.” 
The realization: Every dream can become real if we stay with it. And along the way, discomfort often turns out to be our greatest comfort.

🔸Brené Brown: “Confidence doesn’t mean being bulletproof.” 
The realization: This made me question: If we can’t be vulnerable, how can we ever be certain, as leaders or even as individuals?"

Yes, I went to a Harvard event. As a Stanford guy.

I know. The irony isn't lost on me.

But when you're in Boston to play the Celtics and get invited to Harvard's Breakfast Club, you show up.

Coach Tommy Amaker has built something special with this program. 
Both the men's and women's teams dress up and gather to hear from leaders at the top of their fields. 
Not just athletes. CEOs, former governors, industry experts.

This week, it was Chris Christie. Former Governor of New Jersey, former U.S. Attorney, two-time presidential candidate. Whatever your politics, the man has operated at the highest levels of leadership and pressure for decades.

And while that conversation alone was worth the trip, what stuck with me was how the program itself is structured.

Harvard rewards their players with the highest GPAs. Those guys get to skip conditioning. They get their bags carried. They get recognized in front of the whole team.

Think about that.

In a world where athletes are often reduced to what they produce on the court, here's a program that celebrates what they're building off it.

That's the kind of environment that prepares you for a long career, not just a long season.

It reflects all the reasons I post on the platform. 

The game will end eventually.
The relationships and reputation you build won't.

Find spaces that treat you as more than an athlete.
Because the career after the career starts now.
